Getty ImagesWith a vacancy for a backup quarterback, and apparently for a former Ohio State star, the Bengals have started poking around the free agent market.
According to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Bengals brought quarterback Josh Johnson and wide receiver Ted Ginn in for visits Thursday.
Ginn was extraneous in San Francisco, but would fill a need in Cincinnati with his speed and return ability (considering that Brandon Tate is a free agent).
Johnson finished last season with the Browns, but the former Jim Harbaugh project from the University of San Diego is an option after Bruce Gradkowski left for the Steelers earlier this week.

Glad to see someone finally woke Mike Brown up
Why niners are letting Ginn walk is a puzzling. I hope he becomes a Bengal, and Niners have a different return man.
I’d like both moves. Johnson would make a decent backup QB, and Ginn is a better return man (and WR) than Tate.

The Ginn of last year wasn’t the Ginn of 2 seasons ago. Later into the season he began making really poor decisions on the ball, fumbled often OR juggled the ball more times than we’d like to be comfortable with. Somewhere along the line he became a shaky return guy and confidence in him really began to wain.

2 words: LaMichael James.
Ginn had been regressing each and every year since being signed by the 49ers.
If he’s regressing he’ll make a great Bengal. This is the Siberia of the NFL, where aging veterans come to get one more paycheck. Working for Mike Brown is like riding a moped; they’re both fun rides as long as your friends don’t find out about it.
They might as well bring in Troy Smith. He was showing off at OSU’s pro day.
I wonder how they feel about wearing pyjamas instead of an NFL uniform.
You can tell the Bengals have been successful lately, because they’re starting to get their very own haters.
When was Ted Ginn good?
Both good pickups. The bengals will reach new heights.

Case in point.
