Merriwether played about one game last year

But when he WAS in there, he was a ball hawk man and really strutted some incredible ball instincts. The rope is taught with this guy and a risk to commit.

Uh-oh, logicalvoices is starting to slip. He used to at least make an effort to pretend to be an actual Redskins fan, but no actual fan (of the NFL, not just the Redskins) would ever use the words “weak” and “Lorenzo Alexander” in the same sentence.

With being injured like he was last year the front office held all the bargaining chips here. Brandon would have been lucky to make his new deal anywhere else. Smart move

If you want the adult’s take on the Lorenzo Alexander situation, it’s simply this-
Once Fletcher decided to come back, Alexander wasn’t going to be a starter. Given Fletcher’s injury history, Alexander was NEVER going to start at ILB. This meant he was a special teamer, pretty much, and was going to get paid accordingly. In his tenure with the Redskins, he subbed in at Offensive Tackle, Offensive Guard, D-Tackle, D-End, then lost a load of weight and played very well last year at ILB. The guy is called the “One-Man Gang” for a reason. Definitely a fan favorite, and one we HATE to lose. But with the cap situation, and his desire to be a starter and get paid as a starter, it’s just the way the business goes sometimes.

I wish he could have stayed, and wonder if the Redskins would have been better served with an aging Fletcher, or a younger Fletcher full time at ILB….We’re going to see…..

Lorenzo was not evena starter at the linebacker position, can’t pay a guy that much to play special teams, especially since the skins got screwed on the cap hit they took from the giants owner

let’s see, Lorenzo has led special teams in tackling three years in a row, has been voted special teams captain as many years. He’s versatile enough to not only play both inside and outside at the line backing spot but can be a lead blocker from the fullback position, and can pass block from the tight end spot. logicalvoicesays obviously knows more about football than the rest of us. I hate to see Lorenzo go, he will be missed.

The Skins had to make a choice with the cap situation. I for one am glad they went with youth and targeted Rob Jackson. Special teamers can be drafted. Loved Lorenzo, but Jackson was and should have been the priority.

Seems fair to me. He made a seasons pay last year while playing less than one half of a game. Hope he comes back healthy because that one half of football was far and away the best safety play the Skins saw all season.
