Cardinals sign Jasper Brinkley to two-year deal

The Cardinals talked Jasper Brinkley out of becoming a Giant, and landed him Thursday.

Per Mike Garafolo of USA Today, the Cardinals gave Brinkley a two-year deal.

The former Vikings linebacker had visited the Giants, but found a home in the desert, where he fits in with the bulk signings of defensive players Lorenzo Alexander, Jerraud Powers and Yeremiah Bell.

A solid run defender, Brinkley started 15 games for the Vikings last season, his first as a regular.

Casper Brinkley officially a Cardinal! We call him Casper up in MN since he was basically a ghost on the field (especially in coverage situations).

Jasper is a good guy and I wish him well. He was a good run stuffer but was a liability in pass coverage.

Solid run defending LB just what we needed. AZ is gonna surprise some people this year as good as the defense was were getting better. Cason could still be added ounce Kolb is released. The Oline is coming in the draft. Some stud linemen coming out. Here’s some names. Tackles: Eric Fisher/ Lane Johnson/DJ Fluker
    Guards: Warmack/Cooper
    Center: Barrett Jones
    Some good safety’s as well.
Some good Running backs as well.

Brinkley is a solid tackler very physical linebacker. Wish the Vikes would’ve kept him.

WOW I never imagined the Cards signing so many free agents. Now if they will make a difference is yet to be seen.

Because he didn’t want to play against Shady, Alfred, and Murray twice per year – which tells me dude is soft.

I guess he wanted more playing time, because he’ll be on the field A LOT in Arizona.

this leaves the door open for the Vikes to draft Teo with one of their first round picks. Also need a WR like Allen or Patterson with the other first rounder. That would be a great first round.

Good to see Jasper land somewhere. He’s got some potential to grow, so hopefully he will do OK in AZ.

This is the only signing i like so far!!! except the re-signing of rashad johnson if that counts though

I like this. Paris Lennon was a good player but was getting pretty long in the tooth. Stewart Bradley basically stole every cent the Cards gave him the past two seasons. Teaming Jasper up with D-Wash is going to make the Cards better on D.

PFT, Ed Reed is likely to end up in Houston, according to Adam Schefter.

to those curious Cardinal fans who don’t know this guy, he’s a very good run stuffer and won’t get you beat. Solid, not great. Zero off-field issues that I am aware of.

DA? Don’t the Cardinals need help on the offense line? So far on offense they have signed a back up quarterback and a running back who can’t stay healthy to replace the unhealthy one they let go (beanie). What am I missing?

The Vikes lwt this guy go when they re-upped Henderson. Jasper is a good guy, but a 2 down MLB with no pass coverage skills — which just doesn’t work in a cover two defense.

You won’t believe this, but Jasper actually has a twin brother named Casper.
