Emery says efforts to sign Urlacher are “ongoing”

Bears G.M. Phil Emery doesn’t talk very much. And when he does, he doesn’t really say anything.

Emery didn’t step out of character when discussing the status of talks with linebacker Brian Urlacher.

“That is an ongoing process, and we’ll keep working through that process,” Emery said, via Larry Mayer of the team’s official website. “As I said at the Combine, once we work through that, everybody will know that decision.”

Emery, as he always does, opted for privacy.

“I think that is where it is done best and I think that is where both parties can talk freely to one another and come to the best conclusion for the player and the team,” Emery said.

Emery did admit that the team is now “up against the cap” after signing left tackle Jermon Bushrod and tight end Martellus Bennett.

The Bears don’t have much competition for Urlacher, for now. The Vikings may be interested, and the non-Chicago team where Urlacher would make the most sense -- the Cowboys -- are having more cap problems than Abe Lincoln in a blizzard.
