Giants close to deal with Ryan Mundy

Josh Morgan, Ryan Mundy AP

Apparently, the Ryan Mundy visit with the Giants went well.

According to USA Today‘s Mike Garafolo, the Steelers safety is close to a deal while in New York.

The addition of a safety with five starts in four years isn’t necessarily interesting in and of itself. But it does point to the soft market for veteran safeties.

Dashon Goldson (Buccaneers), LaRon Landry (Colts) and Glover Quin (Lions) got quick deals, but the money seems to be gone.

That leaves a deep crop of veterans, including Giants free agent Kenny Phillips, on the outside looking in.

    LOL.

Weren’t you the clown that lol-ed us when we picked Stevie Brown off the scrap heap? He had 8 INTS for a league high 300+ yards.

Here’s a tip. When you see the Giants’ sniffing around players, that’s when you should bombard Rooney’s email with a plea to extend that guy.

Im still worried about the Cruz situation.
Like I always say – whetever Cruz gets, Nicks deserves MORE!!

Haha mundy was awful with the Steelers. If he gets in the game expect to be disappointed!

@logicalvoices – You are so much more entertaining when you are posting something witty instead of “troll-type” skins posts. I actually enjoy the posts you put thought in (like the Allen Iverson – Answer) post. Keep those coming. The skin’s posts are yawwwnners. Thanks.

    I don’t like Mundys.

Is Kenny Phillips asking for a ton of money? We need him.

    Steelers are sucking wind

Ryan Mundy is terrrible he couldnt even hold off Will Allen for backup safety. This is the dude that blew the coverage on the Tebow TD in the postseason when Clark was out. I hope the plan isnt for him to see extended time.

Maybe a change of scenery will do him good, but I havent seen anything out of him in Pitt.

Mundy is terrible. Seriously. I’m not a bitter Steelers fan at all, he just never had good games.

  13. crownofthehelmet says: Mar 14, 2013 2:11 PM

Then the Giants are very close to being very, very disappointed – like ravenator’s family is.

  14. pixelito says: Mar 14, 2013 2:17 PM

Mundy wasn’t the player who gave up the OT touchdown vs the Broncos. That was Ike Taylor who famously blew the coverage.

  15. crownofthehelmet says: Mar 14, 2013 2:22 PM

Wrong pixelito. It was Taylor’s man, but Mundy cheated up and got burnt trying to get back in safety help.

No, not at all. In fact, I was nowhere near any posts regarding Stevie Brown nor the N.Y Giants. Ever, because honestly, I don’t care.

I was LOL’ing because I’m a diehard Steelers fan who watched this guy time and time and time and time and time again having the opportunity to take control of a Steelers secondary since he was drafted in a provin’ defensive system that’s been in place for decades only to see him whomp-whomp-whomp around the football field who couldn’t seem to get our of his own quick-sand. Ryan Mundy was groomed to take over the FS position for years and ranks highly on my list of the most disappointing young prospects to suit up for the Black & Gold.

    Don’t be TOO butthurt, though.

On the surface, Ike Taylor was responsible for lining up over Thomas in the first O.T snap, but watch closely. Ike was supposed to have help if Mundy didn’t creep up in the box far too deep.

Mundy showed blitz but was too close to the LOS which allowed Thomas to get inside. Mundy was supposed to drop and give leverage on the outsides but he was too late as you can see him chugging to get back once the ball was in the air. No doubt in my mind Ryan Clark would of been there to be in position and would of been in the proper yard sequence to atleast crowd the lane and worst case, make the tackle on Thomas and prevented the 80 yard fluke.

Sunday, Mundy sucks it up. Tuesday, Wednesday more of the same. Thursday, Friday big yards he’s to blame. Saturday what a day. Giants keep him in the league.

    Mo’ Mundy Mo’ Problems….

  20. blackngold4life says: Mar 14, 2013 2:36 PM

Coach LeBeau blew that game with his arrogance..and if Troy wasent out of position sniffin around the line maybe he woulda been where a SAFETY is supposed to be. As far as the Steelers “Extending” players that the Giants front office “Sniffs” around that’s a joke if there ever was one!

  21. weaponx73 says: Mar 14, 2013 4:56 PM

Laugh all you want the guy is being signed as like the Giants #4 safety. If he sees the field something’s gone wrong.

  22. johntonioholmes says: Mar 14, 2013 5:20 PM

That Steelers D was a mess with Mundy starting the beginning of the season. All of the sudden, Allen steps in they have the least sure-handed, but best covering secondary in the league.

Mundy will ruin defenses for you.

  23. steeelfann says: Mar 15, 2013 10:04 AM

I gotta tell ya, Mundy real nice guy, but not good NFL caliber safety. He just isn’t .
