Giants to keep Keith Rivers

The Giants and free agent linebacker Keith Rivers have agreed to terms on a one-year contract, Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger reported Thursday.

Rivers, 26, appeared in 11 games for the Giants in 2012 and made starts at strong-side and weak-side linebacker.

Rivers, who played collegiately at USC, was a first-round pick of the Bengals in 2008. He has yet to play all 16 games in an NFL season. That said, he’s encountered some bad luck, such as when he suffered a broken jaw on a block by the Steelers’ Hines Ward in 2008.
