Last year, the Cardinals opted to pay a $7 million roster bonus to keep quarterback Kevin Kolb.

This year, the Cardinals soon must decide whether to pay Kolb another $2 million.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Kolb’s status is still to be determined. His contract pays a $2 million roster bonus on the fifth day of the new league year (Saturday), followed by a $9 million base salary -- along with a $500,000 roster bonus.

Now that the Cardinals have added quarterback Drew Stanton, they arguably don’t need Kolb. And with the G.M. and head coach who traded for Kolb gone, there’s no reason to keep him around -- especially at a cap number of $13.5 million.
