Danny Amendola gets hurt eating breakfast. He should not return kicks or punts you gotta protect a 5 year investment.

Washington changed field position nearly better than anyone in football. He is a real leader and class person. Pats couldn’t get a better return man. He had a few muff he recovered the last couple of years & lost 1 or 2 but consider he did every punt/kick return and took it to the house on many occasions Patriots special teams would lucky to have him.

Pats should ink this man stat. He is electrifying in the return game, a decent change of pace back, and most of all an absolute class act. His leadership is infectious, and his community involvement is par none. One of the best return men the nfl has ever seen.

First of all, Edelman is the Patriots’ primary punt returner not Welker. Welker filled in when Edelman got hurt because they had no one else with PR experience.

By far, this guy was my favorite Jet. He used to KILL us. I used to call him “Kevin Faulk” with overdrive because he was a threat from anywhere on the field. I’m not sure he’s still the same guy since that gruesome injury he had a few years ago but he’s very intriguing.

Ridley-Vereen and then some combination of Bolden, Woody and Washington (one of those three would be gone) sounds about right to me.

Don’t think we’ll go after Steven Jackson…which is of course a bit sad.

It is ridiculous to say the Pats were caught off guard by Welker leaving. He gave the Pats a chance to match and they said no. From all reports, they started pursuing Amendola last weekend during the negotiating window. Seems to me like they got the guy they wanted. As for Demps, he probably won’t even be on the team this year. He chose track over football this offseason and Bill can’t be too happy after investing a whole season in him. He is a project even if he does make the team.

Well, the problem is NOT that the Patriots couldn’t have kept Welker. They could have. The problem is that they undervalued their own asset and it’s not as if this hasn’t happened before. Most of the time they are right. But I can think of three times where they blew it: Law, Vinatieri, and Samuel. This could be the fourth and that’s why the fan base isn’t happy. Demps is a free agent flyer.

Edelman is the one they want in the return game. They absolutely need to resign him and the difference between Edelman and Amendola could be closer than it is to Amendola and Welker. Hopefully, Edelman signs a new deal with the team. They’ll need him when Amendola goes down.

Wrong! They could have kept him if they had wanted to. We will probably never know all the “facts”. The Patritos are all about chemistry and if they felt that welker was becoming a locker room problem, then they were prepared to move along without him.

You’re right. Its so easy to get upset, and lash out at Bill B…..knee jerk reactons. Only time will tell how this plays out. I have a feeling that the Patriots management knows a little bit more about running a team than most of us. What was it we Patriots fans used to day? “In Bill we trust.”

No surprise Pats are interested. Just like Welker did when he was with the Dolphins, Washington has played well against them, making the Pats defense and special teams look bad.
Still, don’t think it make sense. As one of the commenters already noted, Pats are already very deep with speedy back types. One of them just has to emerge at being dependably sure-handed catching and holding on to the ball, like Faulk and Welker.
Did they really let Welker walk?

Now that I’ve had a night to sleep on it, I’m feeling a little better about Wes leaving. I still wish we’d kept him, but like it’s been said, if the Pats really wanted/needed to keep him, 6.5/year wouldn’t have broken the bank at all.

For Leon Washington. He is a playmaker, but we do have Vereen, Woodhead and if he hangs around, Demps. All of these people are a similar group as Washington would be. If we can get him cheaply, though, why not. Everyone knows he’s good with the ball in his hands.

BTW- I love Leon Washington. He was by far my favorite Jet, when he played there. He was a real threat every time he touched the ball. HOWEVER…. Right now, between Vareen, Demps and possibly a returning Woodhead, his skills seem somewhat redundant
