The Vikings knew they needed a better second option at quarterback, so they didn’t want to wait.

According to FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer, the Vikings have apparently secured a deal with former Chiefs starter Matt Cassel.

The pace of the move underlines just how seriously they wanted someone better than Joe Webb behind Christian Ponder, and how much competition there was for Cassel.

After the beating he took in Kansas City, he’s also not the kind of guy who would be bucking for the starting job, old enough to know his role behind Ponder and not create pressure.
