There isn't a huge fan base for the Raiders here. There isn't a huge fan base for the Raiders anywhere anymore, really. I've said it before, and I'll say it again (and again, and again, and again). Any team that relocates here must abandon its former identity. All records, colors, logos -- everything. If there's going to be any chance of Angelenos en mass embracing a team, it must effectively be cut from whole cloth, a la the Ravens in Baltimore.

PFT is my favorite blog and congrats on the page view records.

My second is the Bob Lefsetz blog on entertainment which only rarely deals with sports. He did have a great one yesterday on AEG about their deal with the NFL dead. Location, location, location. He insists that the league knows people will not come downtown to L.A. in NFL type numbers. They’d never get there and/or they’d never get out.

Sounds like a good landing spot for the Raiders. We need a new stadium more then any team and it just might put the spark we need back in this team. Instead of being the worst football team with the worst facilities, why not? If it translates to money and wins? Im all in!

Deals get done when both parties can get a win from their perspective. I fail to see any win-win here. AEG doesn’t need an NFL team to be successful, and the NFL doesn’t need an LA team so badly as to bow to Anschutz’s demands. The City of LA remains too dysfunctional to get any public money involved, and liberal-but-frugal taxpayers turned down a 0.5% sales tax to balance city budgets (a whopping ten cents on every $20!)

Prediction: No NFL deal with Anschutz will be done in his lifetime. If the NFL returns to LA in the next decade, it won’t involve AEG or LA City.

Probably leiweke was the problem for the nfl,now that he’s out the way the NFL can negotiate with anschutz for a realitic deal not like the one Tim leiweke put on the table,you think a NFL owner would want to sell 30% of the team at a discount price with relocation fee’s.heck no!!!! Now the NFL will finally do business with AEG,even council woman Jane Perry said with not selling this could probably speed things along.

The NFL owners commit collusion so often and so much it’s ridiculous and obvious! Have you ever seen so much contract restructuring, pay cut demanding and one year deals being handed out?

Every time an article comes out about a team moving to L.A. I get a gut feeling it’s going to be the Raiders. I believe their lease on the Coliseum is up after 2013 and plans to build a new stadium in Oakland are moving at a snails pace.

“The league will continue to keep its heels dug in until Anschutz agrees to the best deal for the league. Even if it’s a bad deal for Anschutz.”?

Listen, I know the NFL is the center of your universe. But if you think a businessman like Phil Anschutz is going to let the NFL bully him into making a bad deal, you need to expand your horizons a little bit.

If anything, Anschutz’ comments put more pressure on the NFL. He’s basically telling them- “Listen. You went around and around with Leiweke for two years trying to squeeze him and you see where it’s gotten you- he’s gone and now you’re dealing with me. Now let’s cut the BS and get it done.”

Both sides will make billions on this deal. But if you think the big, bad NFL intimidates Phil Anschutz, you’re dreaming.
