Bucs trade Benn to Eagles

Well, there was at least one piece of business transacted before 4:00 p.m. ET on Friday.

The Buccaneers announced that they have traded receiver Arrelious Benn to the Eagles.

The Eagles in turn have announced that they received Benn and a seventh-round pick from the Bucs in 2013 for a sixth-round pick in 2013 and a conditional pick in 2014.

A second-round pick in 2010, Benn appeared in eight games last year for the Bucs, with four catches for 26 yards.  He started 14 games in 2011.

  1. Redskins would’ve traded for him but don’t the cap space. Poorly run organization.

  2. Upcoming flavordave comment: “Kelly knows what he’s doin, better watch out for Benn and the eagles this year, ain’t nobody gonna be able to stop Chip, Super Bowl here we come”

  3. The Benn’d around…what an awful play. If Chip tries any of those you should fire him. As to Benn, he got lapped by a 4th round pick (Mike Williams). The talent is there, but I don’t think he wants it bad enough.

  4. I liked Benn coming out of college, but he struggled to learn the offense every single year and was the poster boy for those stupid end-around plays Greg Olson liked to run multiple times a game, even though they never worked.

I’m not really concerned with my Bucs trading him because he’s rarely effective outside of running fly routes and his recent knee injury leaves some doubt as to whether or not he can still be effective in that regard.

  5. I remember when the Eagles gave their division rivals come competition.

Now they just give us victories.

  6. not a bad acquisition for the iggles. he has some size, maybe change of scenery will serve him well. i like the direction Chip Kelly has gone since FA started…a bunch of low-risk signings to add solid depth. Big Red would have 20 undrafted FAs on his teams year in and year out…his poor drafting finally caught up with him after the long term mainstays that kept the team competitive washed up.

  7. Kelly knows what he’s doin, better watch out for Benn and the eagles this year, ain’t nobody gonna be able to stop Chip, Super Bowl here we come

  8. Very low risk move by the eagles (seems to be the theme). If he sucks, cut him… They 6 rd pick is not a big deal and they will prob get it back as a compensatory pick when someone overpays nnamdi

  9. Good talent. Needs the right fit and to stay healthy. Haven’t paid attention to him much since Illinois but he was an absolute load there. He reminded me of Boldin. Hopefully this is his opportunity.

  10. Benn was drafted with a pick acquired from the Bears for Gaines Adams, the 4th overall pick in 2007. This means Tampa managed to turn the 4th overall pick plus a 7th into a 6th rounder.

Well, that was efficient drafting. I try to forget that Gaines Adams was drafted right after Megatron and Joe Thomas. I fail to forget that, but I try really, really hard to forget that.

  11. Benn. Maclin. Jackson. We’re going to need a separate staff of trainers for our receivers alone. Add in Vick and our entire O-line and those guys are going to have their hands full, this year.

  12. Bucs higher draft picks to use in the Revis trade. All part of the package of draft picks they will need to use.

Is flavordave Dave Spadaro’s bias dumb ass?

I’d say he’s your daddy but that would be an insult to Dave.

  14. The losers that run on here to make “dream team” comments are just like the guy you see at the bar that has been telling the same jokes and using the same pick up lines for years and is still single and never gets a date, and has never thought to come up with something new.

  15. having some jag off mention “dream team” on any eagles post….so original. Now go get ready for your job that includes a hairnet & name tag

  16. It’s about time they start paying attention to special teams… Nice move, and might even see some playing time catching the ball.

  17. Nice kid who has potential, but he’s injury prone and has confidence issues. I hope it works out for him as he has good character, but with the signing of Ogletree, Benn was expendable.

  18. Disappointed to see Benn go. He was raw coming out of college and didn’t benefit from tearing his ACL, trying to rehab that during the lockout and then dealing with a new coaching staff. Hopefully he catches on somewhere.

  19. My hats off to the egirls what an outstanding trade you pulled off. I guess everyone should look towards 2014 season. How do you spell eagles. LOSER LOSER.!!!!!! @ flavordave been playing Madden 13 I see cause thats when you talk smack. 60 years flavadave 60…. .

  20. Always remember Eagles fans.. We closed down the Vet by knocking you out of the playoffs on the way to the Super Bowl, and opened up the Link with another a$$ whoopin! We will ALWAYS have that on you!

  21. It really is sad how many ill informed haters comment on things they know nothing about. Did any of you ever ask yourself what am I bringing to the table while posting? I don’t know if Kelly will succeed in the NFL but I do know he is a brilliant football coach who has put together a fantastic staff. This trade for a former high 2nd round pick involved the Eagles swapping a 6th round pick and getting back a 7th rounder. In other words nothing.

  22. High reward no risk, basically gave up nothing for him. Injuries have made him a bust, hope he stays healthy. He’s got some talent.

    Josh Freeman.. hahaha enough said..

  24. I love this move and all of these acts of desperation from Kelly. Just keep it up Kelly and you will secure the Egirls spot at the bottom of the NFC East for many years to come. Mortgage those future picks on a no name bum WR. Love it.

As far as the fans on here whinning about people using the “dream team” term, these are the type of people that go around calling people names but run and tell when they get called a name. You know the types. They still live with their parents and post comments on PFT from their basement.

Get a job, grow a pair, and get a life.

  25. Hmmm… OK I guess. Not an earth shaking move but so far Kelly appears to have a plan so let’s see…

  26. Here is the bottom line to this trade, after all the posting……Benn came to the Eagles FREE. A better gamble than Atlantic City. I give him a 60/40 chance to make a contribution.

Face it bro. None of the Eagles signings this offseason can be labeled “Dream Team” players. I’m really excited to see what Chip has in store for this season. Will Joeckel still be available at #4? I hope so….

What the heck are you talking about?
Benn was a 2nd Round selection.

He was developing into a playmaker until he blew his knee out. To get anything for him was big
