Florio’s ending analysis is rather simplistic.

According to Mike Klis, Denver was right up against the salary cap without Dumervil re-doing his contract. Going from $12 million down to $8 million would have given them $4 million in cap space.

However, now they have a $4M+ penalty for cutting Dumervil. So if they re-signed him to the $8M deal they renegotiated, they would be right up against the cap again.

Denver could work around that by paying him a large up front bonus, but they may not be willing to do that. And Dumervil may not be interested in taking what would be a 2nd paycut in order to provide Denver with some cap cushion.

It’s not as simple as “If this was an accident, both sides will agree on a new deal”.

The bottom line is that ED rejected the teams best offer and then changed his mind – timewise its on him and his agent. He’s been a good player but won’t be a huge loss.

My god people, fax machines aren’t antiquated and often times documents are legally required to be in paper form instead of electronically. I would imagine all 32 teams use the exact same process. In case you don’t know, college football still requires letters of intent be faxed. Faxing was not the issue here, get a grip

Didn’t Dumerville sign the 12 million dollar contract last August? If Elway thinks it is a bad contract then isn’t that his fault for agreeing to it in the first place, and recently?

It sounds like the Bronco’s conned him last Summer with renegotiating this Spring in mind.

I highly disagree on this one and think the majority of the blame falls on the Broncos’ side. They know who these agents and players are and how they do business and it’s their job to factor that in and come up with a winning strategy to accomplish their objectives. They made their plays, through out some insults, and didn’t secure the package in the end. That’s on them and their issue if they deemed Elvis to be a desirable player to return.

Elway has made a lot of mistakes like this in his short time. He does contribute some good things, but until he can polish up his business and planning skills and get his role down to a proper science he is prone to making more strategy mistakes in the future. The Broncos will only ever realize 90% of their potential until he can set his arrogance aside and help himself out with the flaws in his game.

The agent’s comments reveal a little bit of their position. By saying, “oops, guess it just didn’t get over in time”, they are playing around using circumstance (deadline) as an excuse not to really take the deal, field calls, and find the most lucrative offer while using the FA leverage. Just my opinion.

For all you people who think Internet and email replaces a fax, you are wrong. A fax has a signed document. Internet and email cannot guarantee a signature on a document. Yes, you can sign the document, scan it, and then send it via email, but that is the same as a fax. Also, people can always claim that their email account was hacked, so fax is still the safest way to get a signed document.

I don’t think the Broncos care too much, they were prepared to move on without Elvis, that was the plan, it looked like he might stay for a brief period of time but he’s not, so back to the plan.

And I don’t think they’re that worried about him going to one of their rivals, his biggest games (and he gets sacks in bunches) come against left tackles that are really tall and can’t handle (don’t realize) that he’ll dip underneath them, or tackles that don’t have the speed to deal with him, Ryan Clady has the speed to deal with him and having gone against him constantly in training camp isn’t going to suddenly forget his moves.

Pat’s won’t sign him. Too expensive. He thinks he’s getting more than 8 mil. That’s not gonna happen in NE.

When the Patriots won the Superbowls, they could run the ball effectively, Brady could make average receivers look good, they had a good front 7 with excellent linebacker play, a strong secondary, and excellent strong safety play. Right now, they need to address the secondary. Too bad most of the good corners are gone.

Big win for Dumervil. He makes Elway look like an ass(rather then a horse like he normally does), he doesn’t have so go through another heartbreaking first round playoff loss when it’s took cold for Peyton’s bionic neck and arm to grip the ball and he gets to sign a contract for likely more guaranteed money then the 8M$ he was slated to make with this new deal.

All blame lies with John,look at my suit ,Elway. If you are the boss you make sure a deal gets done and you didn’t.Your failure and lack of attention to detail has hurt the team. John seems to be given all the credit when a deal is done and none of the blame when a player is lost . If the Denver Broncos are at a disadvantage, by this botch up, the buck stops with Elway. There are two sides to a business… theres the side who pays, and the side who gets paid. Doom was clearly on the high side of where his current contract would have paid him this year. He had the right to make up his mind to test free agency if he thought he was worth at least 12 mil a year. He has that right. At the same time, the Broncos have to make roster decisions and that all hinges on Doom’s decision… they have new cap room to consider if he decided to leave.

The Agent’s games put EVERYONE in this position by waiting until the 11th hour to make a decision. If Dumervil really wanted to be a Bronco, why did he wait so long to decide??
