Don’t ever compare the Raiders and Bengals.

The Raiders are one of the greats in the history of the NFL. The Bengals are an expansion team that has been slapped around for 40+ years.

If he got paid what he is worth, he might have gotten 6-7 mil per year, if that. This is a good move for both sides. I think Johnson is getting the better part of the deal: more money than he would have earned if he was a free agent and a chance to do it again next year. The Bengals may have overpaid, but it is a one year deal and they have the cap room (as usual). Next year they will look at all the DE’s and what they got this year and offer him something commensurate with his performance.

He needs to play lights out just to earn the franchise money, IMO. He is a good player, but not a top tier guy, and some of those guys are getting cut or asked to take pay cuts.

Just because you have money doesn’t mean you have to spend it, Vegas Guy. You complain now, but in a few years when the contracts like Geno, Dunlap, AJ, Gresham, and Dalton are all up you’ll be the first one complaining on how they blew all their money on Michael Johson…
