I am flabbergasted at people that say the Cowboys are the worst team in the NFL. They are a perennial middle of the pack team these days, yes, but to say they are the worst franchise in the NFL just reeks of hatorade.

Cowboy fans just placed on suicide watch with that news. Free was highly penalized and struggled at RT last season.

Their only hope may be to draft Fluker of Alabama in the first. He could manage right tackle and Free can be shown the door.

Warmack plays guard and will be off the board at #18. Top 3 tackles will also be gone at 18. We may be in the market for Cooper out of NC or the mountain-of-a-man Fluker. Otherwise be resigned to the fact that we are going defense again in round 1.

Jethro the GM shouldn’t have been stupid enough to sign him to that ridiculous contract to begin with. That dumb deal is wasted cap space — as was the asinine contract of Sensabaugh (who they finally got rid of) and the contract of Scandrick (before it got recently restructured).

Jethro the GM was the Master of Wasted Cap Space w/those three deals alone.

Here’s hoping he’s learned from his mistakes — and hoping he axes Free come June 1st.

The only thing I can think of is that they may be trying to ride out his contract for one more year in order to reduce the amount of dead money in future years; they did restructure a lot of contracts, and I forsee salary cap problems in this franchise’s future.

If they can do it, and he plays up to his contract next year, great. If not (the more likely scenario), than at least they will have more cap space in the future by waiting a year.

Either that or they don’t know what they’re doing.

Free’s contract pays him $7 million this year. Unless I’m mistaken, if we release him, we will take an $8.3 million dollar cap hit, which, for 2013, would be a $2+ million dollars off of this year’s cap number. Might as well keep him on and see if he can play guard. God knows he cant play tackle. The only tackle he played was when a DE got passed him and he would tackle him to the ground.

Agreed with jjared1101, Get a rookie to develop and use with Parnell and save 7M. You can spend that 7 M on another experienced vet if necessary.

Makes zero sense for the Boys to keep him past June 1st. Parnell played as well as Free played, and Free would save 6 million against the cap. It really isn’t that hard of a decision which means it actually is for Dallas.
