Some of these comments are terrible. If you knew BWest at all from his time in Philly, you'd know this guy is all class and what is happening to these players is terrible (regardless of them "signing up for it"). Just because he makes a statement about having memory loss doesn't mean he is some money-hungry athlete. Maybe he will try to raise awareness to the youth about the issue as he is heavily involved in charity movements (i.e. his own charity "Brian's Blessings). Before you completely tear a guy apart, do some research.

Im sick of these players tryna make the nfl responsible for their decisions. Only you know weather or not you're good to play. You made the decision all the nfl did was ok it. Besides all the players know the risks associated with playing football. What do you want, the nfl to garuntee that you wont get hurt? In the words of Chris Carter and Keyshon Johnson "C'MON MAN!!!"

I had a concussion in high school. After getting hit by a guard and center I couldn't get in a 3 point stance without a splitting headache. Went to a doctor and he said don't go to sleep for 24 hours. Slept like a baby. Missed school the next day but not football practice. I seem to be fine I think lol.

If this were a NY Giant, half of you wouldn't have commented on it. Stop showing favoritism. Yes, Westbrook was a beast. Yes, he's a good man. Yes, I hope his condition gets better. However, HE WAS PAID MILLIONS to take that beating, and he assumes any risk that comes with it. No exceptions..

The sad part about this, besides his health, is that his pathetic organization couldn't bring him home a title. They ran him into the ground every weekend, overused him, and allowed teams to target him as the only offensive threat, rather than take attention off him by putting a better supporting cast around him.

I'm sure all of you feel really bad about the guys that BDawk has given brain damage to. Right?

Westbrook was a beast. 2nd to Marshal Faulk in total yards from scrimmage in just about every season.

Eagles led the NFC in wins, division titles, playoff appearances and playoff wins from 2000-2009 (yeah I know the haters will say they never won the SB but those stats are still impressive).

Westbrook was a huge part of that.

Football is a contact sport, these players knew the risk , don't tell me they didn't .
In my job I have to fill out a waiver form that say if I get injured on the job I can not sue my company , what makes these guys any different ? Their compensation is beyond fair , maybe save some millions for after your career , but hey I'm just a average schmuck who makes 40k a year

hittinhawks -

I apologize. You are black and ignorant, not white and ignorant.

All recent studies point to the number of concussions -- and "micro" or "low-level" concussions often suffered several times a game by linemen, especially) -- leading to CTE, the slow decay of brain tissue. CTE is irreversible. It is similar to a trauma-induced Alzheimer's, in its practical impact. Almost every ex-NFL player who died and whose family agreed to allow his brain to be studied was found to have CTE. In many cases, these players explicitly committed suicide by shooting themselves in the chest so their rotting brain could be studied.

Now, maybe some people who choose to lose their faculties at age 35-45, before their kids graduate high school, their daughter gets married, their grandkids are born, etc., in order to earn a lot of money before the permanent mental fog rolls in.

But I'd argue that once you experience the heartache of having your own world slip away from you while you're still physically present, you wish you could go back to age 18 and do things differently.

hittinhawks -We get it. You’re a fire-breathing, angry white male conservative who believes this country has become a bunch of PC wimps who “care” too much about people they’ve never met instead of “manning up” and taking care of their blood relatives above all else.Luckily, people who think like you are being replaced with enlightened, educated thinkers who understand psychology and why people succeed and fail in this world.Brian Westbrook’s brain got destroyed during a time when the NFL was trying to cover up researching showing its league was destroying brains. It’s not about compensation, he was speaking at an awareness panel. It’s just about being able to empathize with other people.

Good to know that you trolls will use any excuse to point out how much you hate the idea that somebody you consider an idiot might have earned a better life than you. Just because your job doesn't compensate you or take care of you the way you would like doesn't mean other people shouldn't have that.

If you played in the NFL and DID NOT KNOW that multiple hits to the head would cause you problems down the road, then neither did the owners and management.

This is a lawyer thing trying to PIMP $ off the NFL.

It has no legal basis.

Paid and Slaves are not on the same page. These men made great money and WANTED to play.
Don't come back and say "look what happened to me" when you could have walked away from the game at any time.
I'm not being disrespectful, just realistic.

Mar 16, 2013 12:02 PM
Brian Westbrook was the guy who owned the Redskins for many years, respect is due. Speaking of the Redskins, maybe this should be an indicator that its a bad idea to put your QB back into the same game that he got a concussion.

-------

Or protecting him the next game my sending him on a fly pattern only to get TKO'd by the safety.

Ridiculous. Another case of pay me now and pay me later.

---------

step 1. go to u toob and search: " conversations with cbs sports: brian westbrook"
step2. watch from 3:00 to 6:45
step 3. come back here, apologize, and admit that you're just some slob sitting on your couch every sunday watching your practically free entertainment and you have no possible means for relating to an nfl player.

"Think about it… two soft helmets hitting & giving vs two hard helmets hitting and not giving."

This has been looked into by the league and the major Helmets manufacturers. However logical, is it not not safer. The softer surfaces increase the length of H to H contact and transfer of energy.

For all the comments stating he knew what the risks were, you are 100%. The point you are missing though, is that until very recently, getting hit in the head was not a reason to be out injured. Teams continually put players back in games when they had no business doing so. I pray none of you ever have to deal with the effects of concussions that many athletes are dealing with now. With what we know now, players safety is coming first. The long term effects of playing with a concussion can be devastating and teams either didn't know this or didn't care. That is why the lawsuits, their safety was literally put at risk needlessly, it is not that complicated to understand.

Why do all of the posters on here have to be such trolls. Brian Westbrook was a class act his whole career and played with all heart on the field. He is sharing a story about health after football. There are some athletes that may blow their money but others that are about family and a healthy life. If you any of you had any knowledge of this player you wouldn't have made such ignorant statements. I guess its easy to stereotype behind a computer screen from anonymity
