Nnamdi visiting Saints on Sunday

The Saints are one of the teams interested in cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.  And now Asomugha is interested in the Saints.

Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com reports that Asomugha will visit the Saints on Sunday.

As recently explained, the relationship between Asomugha and Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan could be a huge factor.  “[Asomugha] loves him and trusts him,” a source with knowledge of the situation recently told PFT.

The Nnamdi-Ryan connnection, which traces to their mutual time together in Oakland, nearly resulted in Asomugha joining the Cowboys in 2011.

At last word, Asomugha was in “serious discussions” with the 49ers.  Other interested teams include the Cardinals, Broncos, and Texans.

Not a bad pick up but wheres the pass rusher??

  2. cletusvandam says: Mar 17, 2013 12:07 AM

You can have him NO. We have Craig Dahl! We don’t need anyone else.

  3. cakemixa says: Mar 17, 2013 12:16 AM

Someone warm up the fax machine, please

  4. kabmaforlife says: Mar 17, 2013 12:20 AM

That’s what’s up…hope he plays like he can. If they sign him we can draft a pass rusher in round 1. We can be competitive that way.

Now what to do about Harper…maybe let Lewis play strong??

I am hoping any high profile team picks up Nnamdi, that way the whole world will see the real player, whether good or bad. No more excuses that the Eagles used him wrong, even though they tried in 2012 to play to his strengths. He has lost a step or two, and just doesn’t have the heart to play the position any more. Great human being, but we will see if age has caught up to him.

  8. swampdawg80 says: Mar 17, 2013 12:48 AM

If not us then Denver will sure to land him, and that will suck! Hope we at least visit with Ed Reed as well

  9. nfl4days says: Mar 17, 2013 12:57 AM

Nnamdi should be much better in a man defense. He isnt a zone guy at all.

  10. swampdawg80 says: Mar 17, 2013 1:14 AM

It’ll be a nice pickup. But he probably wants money that we don’t have. Hope that is not the case tho. It’ll be a new Cb tandem.

  11. kane337 says: Mar 17, 2013 1:24 AM

Please sign him Saints. Falcons torched his butt last year.

  12. atsbuzz says: Mar 17, 2013 1:29 AM

    Please sign with the Aints.

    Sincerely,
    Matt Ryan

Niners had their year. Back to reality.

  14. rushbacker says: Mar 17, 2013 1:46 AM

After signing DRC, I think you can take Denver off the list.

  15. raiderinva says: Mar 17, 2013 1:52 AM

If Nnamdi is smart he will sign one of these one year beat on yourself contracts. Rob Ryan understands Nnamdi and knows how to use him best on the field.

Even though he is 31, next year at this time he will be the shut down corner that no one SHOULD throw at. Good for Nnamdi. Rob Ryan understood in Oakland. If you have a gazelle, you let the gazelle run.

Put him out there one on one and he does not have to think, only react. Nnamdi is a special player and person. Neither one is comfortable having to deal with the safety help over the top.

You can bet for surer that Sean Payton has a plan for Roman Harper. If he was going to send Roman Harper down the road he would have been gone, Sean Payton are creating a defense for 2013 season. Let not forget that Sean Payton had a whole year of close circuit TV, watching closely play by play so he’s on top of the game. Rob Ryan is part of Sean Payton 2013 game plan this is why Rob Ryan is in New Orleans, Louisiana, and notice you don’t hear to much from Rob Ryan.

  17. escoeng says: Mar 17, 2013 1:56 AM

hope we sign him. only for two years though

  18. bengalskuta82 says: Mar 17, 2013 2:04 AM

He was a factor in Oakland because of Ryans press man schemes. I think he’s good in press coverages and that’s it..He does a lot of holding but he does it in a way that it cant be seen by the officials..watch the tape..I don’t think he’s a complete package like Sherman or Revis..ok I just mentioned the names of two guys that just got done fighting on twitter but I think both of those guys are complete corners..he will be ok playing in Ryans system.

    Dont do it!

  20. grandpoopah says: Mar 17, 2013 2:16 AM

All these people who want Nnamdi haven’t watched him play in a long time. He would struggle to cover half the commenters on this board.

  21. mdd913 says: Mar 17, 2013 2:24 AM

So much for all the people who said the Saints were in cap hell. They’ve already signed one starting corner, are entertaining a guy like Nnamdi, and have lost nobody of major importance.

  22. timsmooth says: Mar 17, 2013 2:27 AM

The Saints “D” don’t have to be world beaters just move from ranked 32nd to top 20 & the Saints will go to the SuperBowl. I hope everyone think they will suck & be a 500 team. They will drop 40 pts on your team in prime time & be modest about it GEAUX SAINTS!!!!

  23. rickyspanish says: Mar 17, 2013 2:58 AM

I’m curious to see if his time with the Eagles was a fluke. It seems kind of odd that an all pro player can decline so rapidly.

  24. daknight93 says: Mar 17, 2013 3:06 AM

In philly, he didn’t have a defensive coordinator and philly was a mess experimenting using a o-line coach to coach defense and once he was fired, then another guy runs defense and was clueless…nnamdi was in a bad situation and he was used poorly and that is a cold hard fact, but philly fans wanna trash nnamdi, he was in a horrible scheme and played horrible..he get with a defensive coordinator in Rob Ryan who knows how to use him and he will do better…definitely an upgrade over all the saints corners, he would be good fit in new orleans

  25. ilovefoolsball says: Mar 17, 2013 3:39 AM

    superbowl losers

don’t do good the next year, look it up.

  26. veence69 says: Mar 17, 2013 4:06 AM

So.. He wants to be part of a rebuilding project?

    Who Dat gonna go 5-11?

  27. deeznolanutz says: Mar 17, 2013 4:36 AM

Win? In San Francisco? Win what? A bowl of deeznutz! Days only thing you can win in San Francisco! Y’all won’t be going or winning any Superbowl’s no time soon son! Who dat!

  28. in3webelieve says: Mar 17, 2013 4:36 AM

Take him NO, he needs a fresh start

  29. officialgame says: Mar 17, 2013 9:16 AM

SF should let the Saints have Nnamdi for the Karma factor alone. Losses seem to follow this guy around.

  30. bigalhebdman says: Mar 17, 2013 10:00 AM

Let’s see now, Nnamdi was born in Louisiana (Lafayette) and has the DC that helped make him an all-pro. It seems like a no-brainer at this point in his career. How much $$ can the Saints offer?

  31. kabmaforlife says: Mar 17, 2013 10:52 AM

I like the idea of Nnamdi and Robinson at corner…if Lewis can beat Robinson for the #2 spot then fine give it to him.

Please tell me what’s going on with harper

That’s funny.. Saints are only rebuilding the Defence that was last in the league because those guys don’t fit the new scheme. Yet still finished 2nd in the division.. Any defense improvement will help alot

  33. kabmaforlife says: Mar 17, 2013 11:46 AM

Panthers, bucks and saints all finished with the same record actually, but the saints could have finished if it weren’t for those poor performances drew had late against 49′ers and Atlanta.

    Yea we will be fine!!

  34. saintswin says: Mar 17, 2013 12:10 PM

San Francisco fans YOU LOST! Falcon fans you signed an old over the hill running back and you have a quarterback who has won one playoff game in the NFL to date and has shown tendencies of choking when they need him most! Nnamdi will fit in fine in the Saints new defense.

  35. SeenThisB4 says: Mar 17, 2013 12:40 PM

Why are the falcan’t fans so riled up? Worried?

  36. bleedgreen11 says: Mar 17, 2013 12:47 PM

Would be hilarious if denver took him.

  37. deansizzle says: Mar 17, 2013 1:36 PM

This signing would have made more sense if we would have cut Vilma and Smith…. Vilma has proven he can’t play a 3-4 scheme which is the whole reason we even got him. And Smith is a shell of himself and I honestly don’t think he’ll be a factor off the edge without his hands on the ground. I do think we can ressurect Namdi’s career for the right price… don’t overpay Loomis!!!

  38. killitandeatit says: Mar 17, 2013 1:43 PM

This dude is walking around with 4 million Philly dollars in his back pocket. He should sign with the 49ers for a one year cheap deal, get a ring, find out what it feels like to win games, come back to his homeland and then market himself.

  39. grandpoopah says: Mar 18, 2013 12:43 AM

If Nnamdi signs with the Saints and has to cover Vincent Jackson, Steve Smith, and Julio Jones six times a year, he might singlehandedly surrender 30 TD passes. You people who think he just needs a better coach or system are in for a very rude awakening come September.
