And who knows maybe they work out a trade for sanders that works out for both parties (maybe two picks from next years draft instead of 1 for this one so the cupboard isn’t so bare).

The Pats might as well grab Sanders because the odds that they will acquire someone better is slim.

If they kept the pick, they could pick up a player who will be on their books for the next three years at a minimum salary hit. You NEED those types of players if you want to keep your cap under control. You cant keep on scooping up free agents at 5 million a year- its unsustainable. Especially for a guy whose is going to be their 4th receiving option at best.

Remember just a month ago, everyone on this board was convinced Percy Harvin could be had for a 3rd. Now you think Sanders is worth one?

Good luck convincing people of that. I have the same problem convincing people that my team’s OFFENSE is the reason they fail in the playoffs since 07. When your D is average, and performs to about that same average in the playoffs points wise but your offense scores 10-15 fewer points per game in the playoffs how in the world is it your defense’s fault? Nevertheless, people continue to blame the Pats defense.

BB respects the Steelers and he won’t try to get one over on them. I would expect they will do a trade for Sanders if all parties are amenable. Just like they did for division rival Miami with Welker.

This class of receivers is deep with receivers in my opinion. Patterson, Austin and Allen will be off the board before the Pats pick unless they trade up, but i think they’ll trade down into the early/mid second where prospects are abound. Hunter could be a steal, Hopkins doesn’t have great speed but boy is he nice to watch. Then you have Bailey, Woods and Williams who will be available in the mid-late 2nd to early 3rd at the latest. Then there is a more marked drop-off with Swope and Wheatley – both of whom i think have definite 3rd round value but no higher. The patriots could use Swopes speed instead of drafting Sanders to stretch the field… but do they want to? Sanders is a much better player but also much more expensive. It comes down to cap issues, regardless of who NE wants to structure Sanders, he will be expensive.

Oh…and not to forget Heath Miller wont be the same for another year after that acl tear…that’s a TWO year injury.

Oh…and who are the running backs? They have NONE.

If this goes through I think we can guarantee the Pats will trade out of the first round and pick up some mid round picks. There’s no way they’ll get through a whole draft with only 3 or 4 picks.

The 29th pick in the first round isn’t going to get them much in return if they try to trade out for more picks.

Pats get an average player with a skill set that fits very nicely with what they do.

Pittsburgh gets sn extra early pick to help fill needs.

I agree that right now, these teams are working on a trade.

Patriots get Sanders and Steelers 4th and 6th round picks, Steelers get Pats 1st round pick.

Pittsburgh uses 2nd round pick on best available WR.
