heys scoobies<

And signed "young" 30 year old players like Spears and Canty???

The pats are probably just waiting to see where their salary cap stands in a week, they still have UFAs to worry about (Vollmer, Freeny or Abraham, maybe another corner), no sense in rushing into sanders he'll still be there 2-3 weeks from now when everyone else is off the market.

And who knows maybe they work out a trade for sanders that works out for both parties (maybe two picks from next years draft instead of 1 for this one so the cupboard isn't so bare).

What all you geniuses are forgetting is that sure, Sanders is worth a 3rd round pick, but the pats wouldnt be paying him as a pick- theyd be paying him as a free agent.

If they kept the pick, they could pick up a player who will be on their books for the next three years at a minimum salary hit. You NEED those types of players if you want to keep your cap under control. You cant keep on scooping up free agents at 5 million a year- its unsustainable. Especially for a guy whose is going to be their 4th receiving option at best.

how can anyone view Emanuel Sanders as worthy of a 3rd round pick!? The Steelers are in a dire situation, if they could get a 3rd rounder for an average WR like Sanders, by all means. The Patriots would be hosed in this trade

Remember just a month ago, everyone on this board was convinced Percy Harvin could be had for a 3rd. Now you think Sanders is worth one?

@ bobzilla,

Good luck convincing people of that. I have the same problem convincing people that my team's OFFENSE is the reason they fail in the playoffs since 07. When your D is average, and performs to about that same average in the playoffs points wise but your offense scores 10-15 fewer points per game in the playoffs how in the world is it your defense's fault? Nevertheless, people continue to blame the Pats defense.

BB respects the Steelers and he won't try to get one over on them. I would expect they will do a trade for Sanders if all parties are amenable. Just like they did for division rival Miami with Welker.

Its funny to see the patriots having a lack of draft picks. Even funnier seeing that it's because of those two busts but could you imagine if either of those players played even near to their potential? Belichek would have looked like a genius; the exception being Aqib Talib who played fairly well considering how absolutely horrid the pass rush and safety play was all year.

This class of receivers is deep with receivers in my opinion. Patterson, Austin and Allen will be off the board before the Pats pick unless they trade up, but i think they'll trade down into the early/mid second where prospects are abound. Hunter could be a steal, Hopkins doesn't have great speed but boy is he nice to watch. Then you have Bailey, Woods and Williams who will be available in the mid-late 2nd to early 3rd at the latest. Then there is a more marked drop-off with Swope and Wheatley - both of whom i think have definite 3rd round value but no higher. The patriots could use Swopes speed instead of drafting Sanders to stretch the field... but do they want to? Sanders is a much better player but also much more expensive. It comes down to cap issues, regardless of who NE wants to structure Sanders, he will be expensive.

Attention Steelers fans:
Sanders was average in Pittsburgh because he played with an average quarterback on a below average offense (22nd in scoring two years in a row). With Brady and a No. 1 scoring offense, sky is the limit for Sanders, who is young and I suspect hungry for success.
Something that's been lost in Pittsburgh the past five years is that offenses are responsible for scoring points, preferably touchdowns. That's how offenses and quarterbacks are judged.

Yeah you guys are right.....afc championship last year and another Superbowl appearance two years ago. Given bb has made some goofs.....but to pounce on him and infer that he doesn't know what he's doing because of the late round picks given up for Ocho and fat Albert is ridiculous. He knows what he's doing....your dislike for him doesn't change that.

"Sorry, but the Pats are still one of the best teams in the league when it comes to drafting young talent."
Seriously? Belicheat is a horrible drafter. He struck gold with Brady years ago and has been living on that since. Out of the 28 picks they've had the last 3 years, how many are still with Pats or starting for another team now? Give me a break. With Welker gone now, you'll see just how good Brady is. This is the first time he hasn't had Welker or the benefit of video taping the other team just before the SB. Wait.......they aren't even going to win the AFC East this year! bwahahahahahaha

CORRECTION...the Steelers are FAR worse than the Ravens. That defense is totally ancient and crumbling fast. No Harrison or Hampton and Polamalu is on his last leg. Lamarr Woodley is fat and out of shape and Roethlisberger has lost all his strength in his throwing shoulder. Without Sanders and Wallace they'd better give Hines Ward a call.

Oh...and not to forget Heath Miller wont be the same for another year after that acl tear...that's a TWO year injury.

Oh...and who are the running backs? They have NONE.

Is there anyone left in the media who believe that getting it right is more important than getting it first?

Really? A 5th for Haynesworth and a 6th for Ochocinco, both have been out of the league for what, two seasons?

So much for the brilliance of BB, eh chowds?

Karma is rearing back and about to bite BB/ Kraft/tommy right on their smug, entitled arses. After what they did to welker, they deserve it.

It's going to be beautiful to watch.

charleythedinosaur says: Mar 16, 2013 7:39 AM

If this goes through I think we can guarantee the Pats will trade out of the first round and pick up some mid round picks. There’s no way they’ll get through a whole draft with only 3 or 4 picks.
-------------------------------------------------

The 29th pick in the first round isn't going to get them much in return if they try to trade out for more picks.

As a Steelers fan, I see this as win/win for Steelers and Pats.

Pats get an average player with a skill set that fits very nicely with what they do.

Pittsburgh gets sn extra early pick to help fill needs.

I agree that right now, these teams are working on a trade.

Patriots get Sanders and Steelers 4th and 6th round picks, Steelers get Pats 1st round pick.

Pittsburgh uses 2nd round pick on best available WR.

Whatever the outcome, I honestly believe it will be a wash in the end. Both organizations are class acts and know what they are doing.
I can guarantee that the Patriots will deal off mallett for a 2nd or 3rd round pick if they end up signing Sanders. They already have teams interested. I agree they will find a way to get some more picks too.......San Fran has a whole lotta picks they can't possibly use, so they'd be a logical trade partner,,,,,,,except they need just about nothing. LOL
