Dannell Ellerbe may have leaked the Dolphins’ new logo

7f339accb41400f42df8e1e557dfe6a3

After the Dolphins signed receiver Brian Hartline, some thought that the team’s new logo inadvertently was leaked via the etching in the table at which Hartline applied his Hancock.

It wasn’t.

But new Dolphins linebacker Dannell Ellerbe possibly took it to the next level, based on the logo he has attached to his verified Twitter page.

I’ll ask the Dolphins for comment.  Once I get more accustomed to the fact that I am in a plane that has left the ground.

Thanks to the reader named James who pointed this out.

UPDATE 5:55 p.m. ET:  And, of course, new Dolphins tight end Dustin Keller has posted a completely different logo  on his Twitter page.  So never mind.  I’ll blame it all on the altitude.

That is not the new logo. That was a fan logo made MONTHS ago. He just found it on Google.

  2. ravenouso says: Mar 17, 2013 5:52 PM

Coming from a Ravens fan, I approve.

  3. niners816 says: Mar 17, 2013 5:55 PM

    It looks constipated.

  4. Iknoweverything says: Mar 17, 2013 5:55 PM

    Not very intimidating.
In fact, it looks incredibly goofy……much like the owner.

  5. drewfl says: Mar 17, 2013 5:56 PM

Looks mean. Ladies and Gentlemen, I think we may have found the missing killer dolphin trained by the Ukraine army.

  6. txmedic5 says: Mar 17, 2013 5:58 PM

It’s a user created logo that was done. it’s not the actual logo that will be unveiled around April 18th prior to the draft.

There are a lot of logos out there and some have been around for years.

    But this is not it.

  7. flipola says: Mar 17, 2013 6:00 PM

It at least looks better than the one on Keller’s Twitter… yeesh.

  8. sammyias says: Mar 17, 2013 6:00 PM

The Dolphin lost his helmet, and closed his eyes?

Oh, now the Keller one is way way different.

I don’t get the secrecy of minor uniform changes, you would think the NFL would hire Seal Team 6 to secure these possible leaks.

  9. Nofoolnodrool says: Mar 17, 2013 6:00 PM

Coming from a Ravens fan, I approve.

Nobody with a brain cares what a raven thinks…when they think which is not often.

  10. PeterKingLovesCoqAVin says: Mar 17, 2013 6:02 PM

Even a basic Internet search would have revealed that the logo on Ellerbe’s account is fan-made.

  11. thegreatgabbert says: Mar 17, 2013 6:06 PM

New logo shows a Dolphin jumping through a hoop. Into the jaws of a Jaguar, or a Lion, or a Panther, or a Bengal, or a Bear…….

  12. 4thqtrsaint says: Mar 17, 2013 6:06 PM

Real or not, its far better than what they have.

  13. pmtlps says: Mar 17, 2013 6:10 PM

    That’s a fan made logo

  14. germanstingray says: Mar 17, 2013 6:14 PM

I’m frightened by the angry dolphin.

  15. getyourownname says: Mar 17, 2013 6:17 PM

At least he didn’t twitter that Ed Reed has all the leverage in his negotiations.

  16. larryboodry says: Mar 17, 2013 6:19 PM

    Flipper’s mean grandkid.

  17. vikingsvoice says: Mar 17, 2013 6:25 PM

That Dustin Keller one is nice. They should make it that one.

  18. lanjoith says: Mar 17, 2013 6:27 PM

Ellerbe’s is way tighter than Keller’s. I hope that’s their new logo. The Dolphins currently have one if the top 3 ugliest logos in sports. the dolphin with the white helmet reminds me of the old Patriot in the 3 point stance logo or the old Broncos D logo. Just hideous.

  19. blackbug99 says: Mar 17, 2013 6:28 PM

Who cares? Seen one dolphin you’ve seen them all. They aren’t exactly ferocious!

  20. guvsta says: Mar 17, 2013 6:29 PM

    Who cares!

  21. wave222 says: Mar 17, 2013 6:31 PM

Please leave names & logos alone!!

  22. aldavisisthenfl says: Mar 17, 2013 6:33 PM

how in the hell does one make a dolphin a cool football logo…….jeez..the worst…

  23. kayakattack says: Mar 17, 2013 6:34 PM

    If it aint broke …

  24. bullpuppy552 says: Mar 17, 2013 6:36 PM

It is NOT the new logo. The new logo is suppose to have an upturned tail

  25. ranadicus says: Mar 17, 2013 6:36 PM

All new contracts come with a misdirection clause. Each player has to display a bogus logo throw people off track and bring the team attention.

Seriously though, was reported a week or so ago that the tail would be upturned like in Keller’s logo.

  26. pnut87 says: Mar 17, 2013 6:39 PM

I like that one a lot better than most of the others I’ve seen.

  27. swagger52 says: Mar 17, 2013 6:56 PM

Are you sick of Ellerbe already? He was in Harbaughs doghouse all the time.

  28. brassknuckles47 says: Mar 17, 2013 6:58 PM

With a logo like that you would think that the Miami dolphins are owned by Sea World!

  29. 49erlifer says: Mar 17, 2013 7:02 PM

Unless they sign Dan Marino in his prime it wont make any difference on the standings still same Miami Dolphins just a new logo.

  30. silvernblak says: Mar 17, 2013 7:03 PM

So now get to call them the ” Whales” instead? Wow, thats intimidating! A turned up dolphin tail, ooooh…

  31. larryboodry says: Mar 17, 2013 7:08 PM

    The Ellerbe one is better.

  32. hawkforlife says: Mar 17, 2013 7:11 PM

The only time their name, “Dolphins” carried any threat was when Larry Csonka mowed people down. I used to love to watch him.

  33. jebdamone says: Mar 17, 2013 7:11 PM

i don’ think either is the new logo but im sure whatever they come up with will be better than the old one.

  34. jahyde1321 says: Mar 17, 2013 7:24 PM

They really should just change their name to the Fins. Shorten it up the way the Tampa Bay Devil Rays did. That way the logo could be a shark/dolphin/any other fish. Opens up many more possibilities. #FinsUp

  35. delmonte55 says: Mar 17, 2013 7:40 PM

Hard Hitting investigative reporting at its best! Florio will have an in depth report on NBCSN right after dart throwing!

  36. mediasloppy says: Mar 17, 2013 7:40 PM

They’ve been tinkering with logos ever since they went to Nike. By the looks of them all, they just seem a little less detailed or tweaked in ways that make it easier to mass produce.

The Dolphins logo is the one I have seen that is clearly changed in style, rather than minor tweaks of others.

  37. tannethrill says: Mar 17, 2013 7:43 PM

What’s missing in the Fins logo is multiple Dolphins, at least three. The Dolphin will never strike fear but the concept of strength in numbers might be the best case scenario.

  38. dolphins4 says: Mar 17, 2013 7:56 PM

Come on Jake resign with the Dolphins already.

  39. 52lightsxout52 says: Mar 17, 2013 8:25 PM

I’m not a Dolphin fan, but I had to copy that icon, it looks nice. It looks like Miami went with the same people who did the Seahawks makeover.

  40. paulymcmac says: Mar 17, 2013 8:27 PM

This logo is a definite upgrade. Love the orange eye and no M on the helmet.

  41. catchhester23 says: Mar 17, 2013 8:30 PM

What is different?? Looks like a dolphin…. On a side note is the thing really named “snowflake”???

  42. peopletrains says: Mar 17, 2013 9:32 PM

Another classic AFL logo is heading to the graveyard… sob.

  43. wethog66 says: Mar 17, 2013 9:59 PM

If the Dolphins are going to make the mistake that is changing one of the better old school logos in the NFL, why just remove the little helmet from the dolphin and make it look angry? Have to go bold like what the Broncos did 15 years ago (accept for those horrible vertical strips from the arm pit to the knee).

  44. kenstabler says: Mar 17, 2013 10:25 PM

Might as well be a snarling goldfish.

  45. EJ says: Mar 17, 2013 10:53 PM

I don’t think there is even a remote chance of drawing up a Dolphin that is intimidating or at least somewhat tough looking. I mean c’mon, Its a Dolphin for god’s sake! It’s kind of on the same level as a Cardinal, Packer or 49er. You can only do so much with that.

    blackbug99 says: Mar 17, 2013 6:28 PM

Who cares? Seen one dolphin you’ve seen them all. They aren’t exactly ferocious!

I’ve heard of dolphins aggressively trying to “mount” swimmers both female and male, that’s scary enough for me! :)

  47. mackie66 says: Mar 18, 2013 4:02 AM

If you really believe, a pissed off Dolphin who has a swim burst close to 30 mph inst dangerous go so fla and try it. They have teeth like a shark but one only sees the tips of those teeth when it opens its mouth. Tag alone with me when im fishing the islands of Caya Costa, Captiva and Boca Grand pass.

  48. officialmiamidolphinsspokesperson says: Mar 18, 2013 9:54 AM

So you guys really think he just pulled this off of google? He just signed a multi million dollar contract for petets sake. I would think the guy has some kind of inside track of whats going on…not just randomly getting pics from google…

tell me this…Have you seen a BETTER logo for the phins?>..think about it..

  49. nananatman says: Mar 18, 2013 9:58 AM

    Still looks terrible either way

  50. jaws1400 says: Mar 21, 2013 1:01 PM

Sorry guys, it seems as if more people like the more traditional yet refined logo that Ellerbe posted but I’m almost 95% positive that the Keller logo is the new one and will be unveiled next month before the draft.
