There were some reports earlier this weekend that the Patriots had signed Steelers restricted free agent wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders to an offer sheet.

Those reports were quickly rebutted by those that said no offer sheet had been extended and Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert confirmed that remains the case on Sunday. Bob Labriola of the Steelers website reports that Colbert said the team has not received an offer sheet for Sanders from anyone, which means Sanders hasn’t yet signed a deal with anyone else.

A run at Sanders would require giving up a third-round pick and structuring a contract that the Steelers wouldn’t match. The former may be more difficult for teams to do than the latter, especially in the case of the Patriots who have the cap space but few late round picks thanks to other deals in recent years.

We’ve also heard that the Colts are cooking up a move at wide receiver. Sanders could be a possible target in Indy, although New England is the team most clearly linked to a possible move for Sanders at this point in the proceedings.
