Report: Steelers interested in Dumervil too

The Ravens and Steelers won’t be renewing their rivalry on the field for several months, but they may be engaged in conflict over a free agent in the coming days.

Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reported earlier that the Ravens have “serious interest” in adding Elvis Dumervil to their lineup and now adds that a league source has told him that the Steelers are also interested in adding Dumervil to their lineup. Dumervil became a free agent after Friday’s fax follies negated the pay cut it briefly looked like he would be taking to remain with the Broncos.

That the Steelers would be interested in Dumervil is not surprising since they could use some pass rushing help after saying goodbye to James Harrison, but it’s hard to see them paying what it will cost to sign Dumervil given how hard they’ve been working to get their cap in order already this offseason. It wouldn’t be impossible (and the Ravens are hardly brimming with cap space), but they might not have enough ammunition to win a bidding war.

The Titans and Patriots have also been mentioned as possible suitors for Dumervil’s services and the coming week should bring more information about the next stop for the unexpected free agent.

Man they cant sign anybody! What are they gonna offer him gold wrapped chocolate coins???

I thought he would want to go to a team that contends not pretends!

  3. bigbadal21 says: Mar 17, 2013 5:38 PM

Either team could sign him and not have a big cap hit this year. 5 or 6 year deal with min salary this year and break up signing bonus by guaranteeing roster bonus next year etc. It’s what it will do to their cap in the future that will cause them to pause.

  4. ravenator says: Mar 17, 2013 5:38 PM

In your dreams Steeler fans. Colbert could never pull off a move like that.

I read the steelers are 13 mil under…thats without signing rookies, obviously, but they COULD restructure more if they need to.

That being said, i think some teams will bid way more than the steelers would want to pay anyway…I just cant wait to see what deal harrison gets.

Of the teams that have been mentioned, I’d go with the Pats. Falcons could really use him, but I think a mostly rookie defensive squad is what they’ll go with.

Might go from 10-yards away to missing the playoffs. Mike Smith defensive coach can’t build one.

This would be the 1st serious move to make significant difference towards getting better.

Elvis will take much less money to play for a team that is being set up to win multiple titles…………..and that aint the old Steelers.

He wants a team with an A+++ front office, the best HC in the game, a dominating defense, and fans that are classy, not obnoxious.

Elvis wants to be part of a dynasty, a team that all others will try to become in future years.

He will want to sign with Kansas City or Seattle

    Don’t ya know!!!!!!!

  12. greglloydrules says: Mar 17, 2013 5:55 PM

Better field, better players, better coaches, better everything. Dumervil is going to Pitt not Baltimore. I see someone who keeps mentioning “broke franchise”. Steelers have more money than the Ratbirds do. As the nest burns

Dimitroff will have to hit on all the picks (no Peria Jerrys) if the Falcons’ D is going to get any better.

steelers are just trying to drive up the price on the ravens and the Pats, It’s all gamesmanship. Doubt the Pats want him at the price they would have to pay and the steelers and ravens can’t afford him. steelers have no one else to restructure and the ravens have no one else to let go. By the way, the steelers have no where near 13mil in cap room. And, the rookie pool is irrelevent, It’s the top 52 on the roster now and it will be the top 51 on opening day.

This is feigned interest. They don’t want a divisional rival to improve so what better way than to drive up the price. Picking this big name player in freeagency is not there M.O

  24. steel2372 says: Mar 17, 2013 6:31 PM

This would be an excellent pickup for the Steelers. Elvis would choose Steelers nation over the Ratbirds anyday. I can see the Steelers dropping back in the draft if they land him. Go Steelers !! Add Elvis and Ahmad!!

  25. steel2372 says: Mar 17, 2013 6:32 PM

  26. orlandodawg says: Mar 17, 2013 6:41 PM

Hmmm…..if, mind you if the Steelers or the Ravens grab this guy my Browns needs to think hard about taking Chance Warmack at 6. Maybe if Geno Smith is there at 6 we can trade down a couple of spots and nab the mauler from Bama. The reason being I am tired of seeing Steeler, Raven and occasional Bengal D-lineman introducing themselves to T-Rich as he is handed the rock in backfield. I don’t want to think about Elvis on the same team with Ngata. F-THAT!!!!!

  27. lennylyles says: Mar 17, 2013 6:42 PM

Steelers? Why would he want to go to a 500 team that can’s beat the Raiders or Titans?

  28. st1llerz1 says: Mar 17, 2013 6:50 PM

At least if Dumervil signs with luckimore they’ll have one decent player on defense. However, the rest of that squad is going to look, and play, pathetically in the years to come. courtney upshaw was looking more like a nose tackle than a linebacker by the end of the year…ngata is fading fast… mount cody is exactly what we thought he was when he was drafted, a blocking dummy…jimmy smith has been so pathetic at corner, they’re thinking of floating him out there as a safety…ray ray is gone…elerbe is gone…kruger is gone…reed has been gone for the last two years.

flaccid and what’s left on offense had better put up huge numbers to legitimize that ridiculous contract he signed.

    As the Nest Burns…

    GO STEELERS!

    ===================================

Wrong on so many levels. Your field is one of the absolute worst in any sport. Remember that 3-0 thriller a couple of years ago against Miami? The one that looked like it was being played on a WW1 battle field? It was so bad I remember Miami going for it on 4th down instead of kicking a 30 some yard field goal. Oh, and we just won the SB so our coaching staff and players are more talented.

Oh, and please explain how the steelers have more money than the Ravens. That is flat out false.

Have fun getting dominated by the ravens and Bengals in ur own division while struggling with the browns. Ain’t no way in hell he’s going to the ravens after that gift of a game that ref gave them in Denver. Elvis is staying in Denver he’s just looking for a new agent to get the job done. Denver’s offer was equal to the market and from a numbers/championship standpoint staying in Denver is his best option. It’s kinda funny to watch all thirsty pretenders drool. Mile high swag really is too damn high. GO BRONCOS!

  41. blindmansaidwhat says: Mar 17, 2013 8:01 PM

It’s comical to see Ravens fans talk smack…the Ravens have lost more in free agency than any other team and they don’t have cap space to do much. One n done….shhhhhh!

  42. nickster31 says: Mar 17, 2013 8:03 PM

The old agent for Elvis passed on the new agent waiting period. If he was going back to Denver, it would be sone.

  43. nickster31 says: Mar 17, 2013 8:14 PM

Hey Dat, you should think before writing. The $8 million was available with Denver before, but with the accelerated proration of previous bonuses, the Broncos don’t have that much cap room available anymore.

And id he is looking for Championship quality teams, he is probably going to run as fast ad he can from Denver. Sorry, as great as Manning is during the regular season, he SUCKS in the playoffs.

And you want to talk about the Steelers getting dominated, we split with the Bengals and Ravens last year, and played the Ravens with back up QBs. The Bengals haven’t won a playoff game in over 20 years.

Pittsburgh will once again own the AFC North again this year.

The NFL champion Baltimore Ravens lost five key components of their defense, linebackers Paul Kruger, Ray Lewis (retirement)and Dannell Ellerbe, and safeties Ed Reed and Banard Polars as free agency began Tuesday. On Monday, they traded star receiver Anquan Boldin whom accounted for 104 yards of (highly overrated) joe flaccos 287 yards in the Super Bowl and one of his 3 touch down passes. For any one to think that the Ravens are going to make a run to the championship is out of their mind. Fan or not that’s just ignorance.

“Ya’ll” are so far away from a championship as well. 70 yards to be exact, lmao. Peyton Manning is the NFL’s elite most valuable choker so don’t expect to really go anywhere. Nice post though, you type scared. That’s funny.

  49. jmblosser82 says: Mar 17, 2013 8:47 PM

For starters our field us horrid but that game against Miami was in Miami, so that fact is wrong. Would be nice to have this guy but will never happen. Who was the last big name FA the steelers signed? Also who would want to go for the #1 rated def, they lost a few but still have the core. Steelers need to focus on a RB and WR. Timmons, Woodly, Worlids, and for now Foote will be fine. Need to get youth for Hampton, Troy, Ike, and Foote. And on the last note to the raven fans, I forget what team lost to a 3rd string QB(who also outplayed Flacco)and was about to lose to a guy who’s last start was almost 3 years prior and again a game where Flacco played like he was worth $1. Worry less about our age and more about your shell of a defense and lack of Boldin to bail out Flacco. The bungles are on a roll but history shows that won’t keep up and the browns haven’t been relevant since before the ravens left town.

  50. tedmurph says: Mar 17, 2013 9:04 PM

Dude you’ve definitely been in Club 64 way too often. Peyton came to Denver to do what he did in Indy, choke in the big games. Your special teams gave you 14 points and you clowns still loss, and the better team obviously won that day and this year Super Bowl. Cheers from the land of pleasant living & crab cakes.

  52. dartwick says: Mar 17, 2013 9:24 PM

He would be a great fir in Pittsburghs scheme for both himself and the team.
But I think the Steelers dont seriously believe they can land him they just want to drive up his price.

  53. jrcoop says: Mar 17, 2013 10:16 PM

Funny how a lot of these post that are begging for their team to sign him are authored by the same people that impuned teams like the Dolphins for signing free agents. As I recall, they told us how teams like the Steelers, Patriots, and Ravens didn’t do such things.

It’s also amusing how they preached the wages of sin (signing free agents) would be cap hell, and yet, it’s those same draft centric teams that actually had to shed players and contracts.

    Sounds a tad hypocritical.

  61. tiggerblood says: Mar 18, 2013 12:20 AM

Can’t stand it. The Bengals are a young and upcoming team and no respect. History is exactly what it is, history. BuT then again it was a Steelers fan always bringing up history when their team is bad or fear that their team will be bad. They will shout six six six six six blah blah blah. Just don’t see either team getting in the playoffs. Offensive line woes were still not answered despite using first and second round picks on the positions last year and the defense isn’t getting any younger. The Ravens are better off because they’re offense is younger and better than the steelers but the defense resembles Swiss cheese right now. Also when was the last time steelers had a good draft so don’t expect to be filling many holes there. Maybe Decastro will shine the turd that was last years draft in his second year.

  62. steelers4385 says: Mar 18, 2013 12:27 AM
