Antwan Barnes heading to the Jets

While it doesn’t match the pace with which guys were leaving the Jets, they’re starting to make some solid additions.

Chargers outside linebacker Antwan Barnes just tweeted out word that he was going to join the Jets.

He gives them a solid option on passing downs, as he had 11.0 sacks in 2011 for the Chargers, though he dipped to 3.0 last year.

Originally a fourth-round pick of the Ravens, he has ties to both coach Rex Ryan and new defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman.

UPDATE 2:10 p.m. ET: OK, this is terrific. Barnes apparently jumped the gun on his own signing. Stay tuned.

Does it really matter at this point

    Another good signing.
Garrard is an upgrade over Sanchez.
Goodson is an upgrade over Greene.
Colon is an upgrade over Slauson.
Barnes is an upgrade over Pace or Thomas.

Twitter should have a slogan along the lines of “Twitter… where illiteracy is welcomed and endorsed since 2008”

I like the pick-ups that Idzik is getting off of the “clearance rack”.
    Good, shrewd signings…so far.

So the Jets just signed someone who can’t even spell their GM’s name correctly…I’d say they’re heading in the right direction

I love the way you talk about all the Jets who are “leaving”. The majority of them were older, overpaid players past their prime. Most of them were shown the door.

Chargers are going to miss this guy.

  9. harrisonhits2 says: Mar 18, 2013 2:25 PM

On the bright side he’s getting paid.

On the downside he’s a Jet and joining the black hole of suck.

Really ? You think the Pillsbury Dough Boy is going to do better than Sanchez ? Good luck with that one.

Vikes comes from his HS. A pass rush of Wilkerson, Coples and Barnes is not that bad.

Don’t you feel stupid runnng over here by now? We Jets fans don’t run like a 7 year old to your board.
You have to find something else besides this and picking at your acne.

Well, at least he gave Idzik an extra vowel instead of an extra consonant in his name.

  21. hawkmojo says: Mar 18, 2013 3:27 PM

Idzik is gonna treat you guys right. He will build what your dumbA$$ coach cannot. This guy is a good signing and will help you win games that you thought unwinable.
When the roachcoach gets fired next year you will get a good coach and then you will be on your way to a MUCH better season.

  22. hawkmojo says: Mar 18, 2013 3:30 PM

Good on ya my man!! hang in there for atleast two years. Gonna take that long but you will be rewarded.

Two years? You need a come-to-jesus talk with yourself young man.

Imagine if Irsay and this guy shared a twitter account!

  27. lrjets says: Mar 19, 2013 10:46 AM

Cannot understand how folks here give thumbs down to Idzik this early??

With the mess he was left with, and the short time he’s been on the job, please explain how he could have done better?

I don’t care who was named GM, at best they be tied with Idzik’s performance thus far.

Hard to spin gold from straw, and Rumpelstilskin is gone.

  28. richmondbolt says: Mar 19, 2013 11:23 AM

Barnes is the absolute definition of a one-trick-pony. He gets absolutely mauled in the running game, and couldn’t cover me in the flat. Granted I’m really, really fast, guys. Saying that, he is good on obvious passing downs, and that’s about it. Good sign, if he came cheap.

  29. natelan69 says: Mar 19, 2013 7:51 PM

This would be an insurmountable loss for the Chargers…
