Hasselbeck already talking about deal with Colts

Matt Hasselbeck’s time as an unemployed backup quarterback may be short.

According to USA Today’s Mike Garafolo and Jim Wyatt of the Tennesseean, Hasselbeck is “already in discussions” with the Colts after being cut by the Titans earlier this afternoon.

The report said he could sign to be Andrew Luck’s backup soon.

While other quarterbacks have illusions of starting, Hasselbeck is apparently past that. The 37-year-old would provide a veteran mentor for Andrew Luck, and more than replace what the Colts lost when Drew Stanton went to the Cardinals.

We wonder how many exclamation marks Jim Irsay would have for Hasselbeck if they finish the deal.

Anyone without a rock solid starter right now should be begging this man to come in and get the job done. Much respect for Matt, seems like a hard working team guy.

Yep. He’s signing where he knows he can easily win the starting job. He knew better than to try DC for instance, where YOUR reigning NFL Rookie of the Year and best QB in professional Football resides, Mr. Griffin III.

Nooo, Come to New York Jets, at least you get chance to win starting job…. than any Jets current QBs..

Hope the 9ers get a crack at him. Would be great to have a vet behind Kap with his track record.

A solid backup and mentor to Luck.

Why don’t the Cardinals sign him?

He could start for half the year to a year until their rookie is ready.

Arizona sounds like the perfect spot for him.

Great choice for a back up QB. Someone who can mentor Andrew Luck.

Any team we be lucky to have him as a back up, he’s smart as hell. Career was just cut short in Seattle by injury

While the Bears continue in their misguided attempt to extend the Jason Campbell era in Chicago.

This would be a great back-up. He has had a great NFL career and would be a nice insurance policy. Much better than what we ever had for Peyton.

    Is this the big move?

  16. indyspeedo says: Mar 18, 2013 8:05 PM

Not the big move. The big move is supposed to be a WR.

Nice signing, we are going to run a west coast offense next year n he ran one before, plus Luck is the top up and coming QB’s in the league! !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully for 2 years at 2mill per, his full time starting days are behind him!!

This is a smart move. Great Mentor possibilities for a young rookie QB who already looks amazing. Next season could be huge for Colts fans. If they add another weapon at WR, there really isn’t much stopping this team from going deep in the playoffs.

As a Raider fan I would love Him to back up Carson but to have him behind Andrew is great for the Colts because of the mentor factor plus a QB who can come in and be effective. Nothing like having your young SIX Shooter backed up by the Old SawedOff Shotgun!!! Plus Matt is a true class act of the league ask anybody who he played with! Go Matt Luv Ya Brother!!!
