Why not at least mention the amount of space the Steelers have in an article like this? Im pretty sure they have more space than most people realize. That information seems really important when saying things like “Absent cap space, however, the only guy they’ll be able to get is Max Starks on another one-year minimum deal.”

Besides, the Steelers have one of the best, youngest OLines in the NFL. They have committed 4 first/second round picks to the line in the last 3 years and as long as they can stay healthy they will be one of the strongest units in the league.

If the Steelers truly want to add depth to their offensive line, they should re-sign Starks, the unit’s most dependable lineman last season. He never missed a single offensive snap in 2012.
While the media continue to spread negative propaganda about the Steelers’ O-line, it should be noted that the team’s quarterbacks were sacked just 37 times last season. Of course, having Roethlisberger out of the lineup for 3 and half games probably helped to keep that total down…
Nevertheless, the Steelers’ O-line is no doubt a team strength heading into the 2013 season.

In making a play for Long, isn’t this essentially conceding that Sanders is all but gone? Allocating what little cap space they have (outside of funds to be allocated to draft picks) to Long would’ve meant substantially less money to match whatever the Pats would bring to the table if Sanders were to sign a tender from NE, thus making Sanders ridiculously cheaper to steal. Just a thought…

Adam Schefter needs to check his sources, because there is ZERO chance that the Steelers made any “play” for an expensive OT with a history of injuries. We are extremely tight on our cap, and we just drafted 2 OTs in the 2nd rd the past 2 years.

If we needed one, we’d draft one.

I’m sure it was just a feeler to see his asking price. I think the Steelers are too smart to touch Andre Smith…

Plus we already have a RT in Mike Adams, and I don’t think Andre has the feet to play on the left side. Gilbert is still young and was a 2nd round pick, so it’s not like the Steelers have nothing there… But an upgrade like Long wouldn’t have hurt.
