Jenkins wasn't brought in to stuff the run. Everyone (especially the quoted Snee) knows he gets off the ball quickly in order to rush the passer. Linval is the run stuffer, and presumably, Rogers and Kuhn are to man that role, while Jenkins and Austin will be rotated in to help with pass rushing from DT. Fewell's system is a hybrid with regards to the duties at all four slots on the defensive line. When it's clicking, it is a thing of beauty. When it's not, it's ugly -- i.e. last year. No run stuffing, no pass rush. Just jerseys moving in slow motion (and often out of position).

tyreeshelmet says: Mar 19, 2013 9:31 AM

Maybe the Redskins should not have violated rules in the uncapped year?-
--------------------------------
Yeah, how dare anyone violate selectively enforced, unwritten, illegal rules, with contracts pre-approved by the league office.

And while we are on the subject, the Cowboys and Redskins are not the only teams that dumped salary in the uncapped year - see the Chicago Bears and Julius Peppers. But of course, the Bears do not play in the NFC East.

Finally, the excuse for the penalties was that the Cowboys and Redskins gained an unfair competitive advantage with the salary dump. But of course, the teams who violated the salary cap FLOOR during the uncapped year, and who therefore gained an unfair advantage after the new CBA was signed were also not penalized. But of course, they do not play in the NFC East either.

This was illegal collusion, plain and simple, and the whining was done by sonny boy John Mara, who was born on 3rd base and thinks he hit a triple.

The Giants had 16 opportunities to "get it done" last year. They didn't. Better to make it to the playoffs and lose than to not make the playoffs at all.

It used to be fund to debate with people that actually had an actual argument.

Skins fans spend more time whining about the shady dealings of their owner instead of the condition of that slop track they call an NFL field.

Or actually winning meaningful games. They spend more time focusing on how to become the Eagles -- making splash deals, bragging about games in the regular season that only they care about -- and other nonsense, instead of winning when it matters.

Maybe the Redskins should not have violated rules in the uncapped year? Oh well, an undersized banged up gimmick qb, no cap space and few picks surrendered for the aforementioned banged up acl again qb. Good luck skins, back to 6-10

If anything you have a gimmick wuss owner a.k.a. John Mara, and it seems to me that gimmick qb outplayed the adopted Manning in both games and won the division! So where were your gimmick GI ants and the gimmick owner? Ah year sitting at home watching the Redskins play in the playoffs...

Clowns! This is about the INTEGRITY of the NFL, not which team you support. If Mara is able to prompt other owners to vote on cap penalties for teams within his division, then why can't Snyder ask for a cap penalty against the Giants? The NFL is allowing for blatant conflicts of interest to occur.

Giants fans - This is wrong no matter how biased you are. Turn it around and pretend this happened to your team. If it happened once, it can happen again.

One of the things I love about Dan Snyder is how he chased away the intelligent, college educated, old money Skins fans and attracted such trailer trash. Educated fans don’t go to games where an owner tries to sell them expired airline pretzels as food. They flee as fast as they can and they sell their tickets to the local pond scum.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Snyder chased away the educated and intelligent fans? By educated and intelligent, do you mean the wine and cheese crowd that seem to grow in numbers after the Skins left RFK? Do you mean the wine and cheese crowd that whines and cries for fans to sit down and be quiet when the visiting team's offense is on the field? Good let them stay home. I'd much rather have the old school RFK blue collar fans show up than the Polo sweater crowd. They can stay at home and cook their game day goodies with their fondue sets if they don't like the pretzels. Besides, if you go to a game for the pretzels, you're going for the wrong reasons.

To east96st:

True, the new Skins fans are not those of the Hogs and Gibbs.

Then again, the new Mara certainly is NOT Wellington.

Skins fans did respect the old Giants leadership as well. But your silver spoon'd owner is nothing but a tool that has Goodell in his pocket. Don't deny it.

Tell me .. if the Giants had those cap penalties levied on them by Snyder, how would you feel? I thought so.

How did this comment and article become a skins issue?

Sorry, for a moment there, I forgot that skin fans love, I mean LOVE, to whine and complain and blame their inability to WIN on everybody!!!

Spare us the whole violin music. But I guess I'll just have to get used to it coz' they won't be winning anything anytime soon, well, maybe, the cellar dweller award, AGAIN!!!

Let me just end it with some encouraging words to comfort these sore losers. Enjoy your semi-healthy QB next season, enjoy the few wins you may get, and enjoy, even for a flicker of a moment, something resembling a successful season. EVERYONE KNOWS, once injured, NEVER the same, and that goes for any athlete, no matter what sport they play.

Good Luck!!!

why would giant fans whine abiut this? after all, its their owner has the power to request fines for their opposition. if the giants were guilty of a similar fine (like maras father once was) do you think john mara is going to go to goodell and request that he fines himself??

giants , from lucky fumbles in title games, to catches off of peoples helmets on alley oop passes in the super bowl, to the nfl awarding them an extra home game while dressing up their staidum as if it were the saints stadium...of course giant fans arent going to complain. its been handed to them.

Wow who knew there so many Skins fans out there before they drafted R2D2 and automatically became champions of the universe! Snyder and Jones (quality individulas that they are) attempted to sneak around cap limits and Mara simply called them on it, and the league recognized and enforced it. Either would have done the same thing to Mara if the situation was reversed. Mara is too ethical for that, something Jones nor Snyder know anything about. Want some cheese with that whine?

Well, this is a pretty good draft for d-linemen, he should just ask Goodell to give him more draft picks this year.

It's sad how a few owners basically run the NFL...

If the Giants wanted to get tougher on the D-line, they sure did not help themselves by adding Cullen Jenkins. There was a reason the Eagles, and Chip Kelly in particular, let him walk. He averaged less than 2 tackles per game last year and had three sacks. And, he was not very good the season before either. Major disappointment as a FA pickup by the Eagles. Rotational, backup player at this point in his career.

Redskins fans seem to not realize that the NFL had been advising teams not to take advantage of an uncapped year since 2007. Also, it was a 29-0 vote by the owners to have the cap penalties applied. But, just sit there, pout and blame big bad John Mara .

Is it any surprise that the only 2 teams penalized have 2 of the most laughable owners in the league?
