His name is actually Stevie? I thought it was just a nickname.

Still, a good keep for the Giants...He's been pretty good for them so far and they're gonna need as much talent at safety as they can get with Phillips gone

Brown did an amazing job filling in last year, but Mr. Wright is correct, there is a reason that the Giants were able to get him and other teams passed. He has a spotty record and is in no way a replacement for a healthy Kenny Phillips. Kenny Phillips was a force who allowed Rolle to roam deep and be the ball-hawking play maker he was signed to be. With Phillips out, Rolle was moved to slot coverage a lot of the time which really limited his ability. Brown simply does not offer the all around game to allow Rolle to do what he does best. Brown had a very good year and he stayed healthy, something that Phillips could not. I sincerely hope Brown can turn in a repeat performace although I would settle for less turnovers and more consistent coverage. Sometimes an environment and scheme shift is enough for a player to succeed when they have previously had little to no success in the league.

With those stats I can’t believe he didn’t get an offer sheet from one team. 2nd in the league in Ints and all you have to give up is a 2nd round pick? Sounds like the owners have a silent agreement not to touch each other restricted free agents.
-------------

I'm as diehard of a Giants fan as can be, and appreciated what he did last year. But he has six years of bad tape (4 in college, where he was routinely abused by a conference full of below average QBs, and two in the NFL) that preceded this year. The Giants obviously wanted to get him tendered, so that if he replicates those numbers -- or at least comes close -- then he would be worth the money that Kenny was seeking, and then some.

But like the Giants, the other 31 teams -- including Oakland, who also released him -- have the same film on him. One good year against four poor ones and two others where you barely saw the field is not going to net you a big deal; particularly since teams don't snatch other teams' RFAs all that often anymore. It's a boon for both Stevie (effectively, a "prove-it" deal, as a tender) and the Giants, who bring back a ballhawk at a bargain rate. If he outplays it in 2013, it will force the Giants into a corner by having to pay Nicks, Vic AND Brown next offseason, which is not going to be palatable to us Giants fans, UNLESS we win it all on our home field, and nary a person will really care about the 2014 season.

Great news. He MORE than filled in for KP last year, and with KP now an (ugh) "Eagle", Giants really needed Stevie back. Come on, Cruz, follow Stevie's example!

Brown was given a opportunity, and he made it one record setting one returning 307 yards!
76 tackles, couple FF, to boot his 8 picks, and now is "smart as hell" and 2M in the bank.
I have nothing but high praise for this veteran, who had moved around, now found a home, and guys who like him, want to go back to the Super-Bowl!
Man, how nice that would be, staying home, and playing the big-game, in Feb weather, awesome.
CT GIANT
PS: Never laugh, we are the NEW YORK GIANTS!
