Ron Rivera’s excited about Ted Ginn possibly joining the Panthers

Wide receiver/kick returner Ted Ginn visited the Panthers this week and the meeting must have gone well.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera had plenty of good things to say about Ginn, who has also visited with the Bengals. Ginn hasn’t signed with the Panthers, but Rivera gave the distinct impression that the announcement of a deal won’t be too far away.

“The interesting thing about Ted is he gives us some depth at wide receiver who can challenge for playing time opportunity. But also he’s got special teams value, which is big,” Rivera said, via Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer. “He’s an explosive guy coming off the line of scrimmage, too. So there’s some huge pluses for us as far as hoping to be able to bring a guy like that into the fold.”

Ginn has long talked about wanting a chance to play more on offense than he did in San Francisco and it sounds like the Panthers are willing to give him a chance to do that. They also shuffled through a bunch of returners without much success over the course of last season, making it easy to understand their interest in Ginn.
