Length and size are important on defense b/c it alters what offenses do schematically. For example, Brady and the "Screen" do you know ultimately the Eagles lost the SB b/c Brady through screens to the backs for most of the 2nd half. If we had a big end or LB (forget Jevon Kearse, he was weak) with instincts, strength and speed, we could have countered that. Look at players Jason Pierre-Paul, Darnell Dockett, Julius Peppers and JJ Watt, these players are hard to contain b/c of their length, size and speed.

I just love the skins fans who won one NFC championship in the past 10 years. I'm a die hard eagles fan but obviously Eli manning is leaps and bounds the best quarterback in the division. Vick in his first couple of years in the NFL was much more durable then what we've seen from RG3 who's a career ending injury waiting to happen. Nobody thought the redskins would win the division at the beginning of last season so nobody really knows how the division will play out next year. Chip's got a plan and yes the sabans and pitrinos were complete failures but harbaugh and carrol seem to be doing just fine.

his offense didn't work in college. he was great against Idaho St. and the likes. mainly because of recruiting. anytime he left that cozy nest and traveled to a real conference (SEC) he didn't fare so well. so he wants to come to arguably the most competitive division in football (count the Lombardi's) and run his version of the spread. here is what he is going to learn the hard way. if you can't run in the East you can't win in the East.

This big people beating up little people talk sounds like pee wee football. I imagine at Oregon Chip's team was bigger than every opponent and his defense still was 44th in yards allowed.

It's the NFL Chipper! Hell, everyone is big, strong and fast. I'm going to enjoy this epic failure.

"You can’t stop RGIII and the Redskins. Welcome to last place again Philly. Signed Your Father the Washington Redskins."

Whatever. The book is out on him just like it was for Cam Newton.

Besides, no one needs to stop RG3 because he's good at doing that himself by injury.

Enjoy that season in the sun. It's all you Skinz fans are going to have. Hale!

Bobby Taylor, Troy Vincent, Hollis Thomas, Corey Simon, Trotter, Carlos Emmons, Willie Thomas, Dawkins, etc etc. These are not “undersized” guys. I think you are confusing the last 4-5 years (after Johnson’s death), with the 6-7 before that. Which isn’t a big deal, but if you are going to talk about “having to endure”, you should at least know when you endured it

--------------------------------------------------------
They're not undersized guys, but most also weren't drafted by the Eagles for JJ's defense.

Bobby Taylor '96, Troy Vincent drafted by the Dolphins and acquired in a trade, Trotter '98, Carlos Emmons drafted by the Steelers '96, Thomas '98, Hollis Thomas '96, Dawkins '96.

Jim Johnson didn't get to Philly until 1999, almost all of these guys were leftovers from Ray Rhodes. Andy loved drafting undersized "high-motor" guys, which came after all of these guys were done.

For all the people lamenting the Philly QBs, here's a newsflash: franchise QBs are hard to come by. Was there a FA QB better than Vick for Kelly's offense? Even the QBs that were available via trade aren't that much better than Vick/Foles, and for a team that's rebuilding, weren't worth what it would take to get them (e.g., Alex Smith for what the Chiefs gave up for him).

Objectively speaking, with the additions and changes, I think a 6-10 or 7-9 season is feasible, improving on last year and leaving the Philly fans hopeful for the future.

I think the Eagles are on the right path now; with the thin QB draft class, they're stocking up at every other position before installing a franchise QB. Which is fine in the next couple of years if that's the "missing piece" for the Eagles. It's easier overall to find one player than, say, and entire defense (like during Reid's last two years)

Those of you who are commenting that “bigger does not = better,” are forgetting how long we Eagles fans have had to endure the drafting of undersized, overrated, contact averse players to fit Jim Johnson’s preference for speed. A little size and a little more aggression wouldn’t hurt.

I'd much rather have big guys then the small undersized players Andy used to bring in here.

That said, no way the Eagles win more then 8 games this year, and for rebuilding's sake I hope they win 6, to get some more impact players in the draft next year.

Saw someone say something about the Redskins. RGIII better score 40pts a game this year with that suspect defensive secondary that ranks 30 in passing yards allowed. Redskins added practically nothing in the off season. Only difference will be a healthy Brian Orakpo maybe. Redskins won't have a good draft for another 3 yrs.

Those of you who are commenting that "bigger does not = better," are forgetting how long we Eagles fans have had to endure the drafting of undersized, overrated, contact averse players to fit Jim Johnson's preference for speed. A little size and a little more aggression wouldn't hurt.

Those of you who are commenting that coming back from 4-12 means that the Eagles won't be good any time soon are probably right. But Kelly seems aware of that, doesn't he? Why bother pointing it out?

I do like what Chip Kelly has been doing so far. Everything really makes sense. He seems to be a very intelligent guy.
However, what still worries me is the QBs on the roster. Not one of them can take the Eagles anywhere. Rank the QBs in the division and the Eagles are last... that worries me.
I get CK wants a mobile QB, but Vick is not the answer for any offense.. sorry. Work with Foles, I think Tom Brady is making the hurry up offense look stellar up there.. (not saying Foles is TB, nobody is TB)...

Looking forward to September..

It's simple why Kelly wants size. It's because his gimmick college offense got stuffed when he encountered defenses with size. Nick Fairly for Auburn almost single handedly stopped his offense in the national championship.

Eagle fans should hope Kelly also learned he needs some size on offense because if Oregon had a blocking FB , Kelly would have a ring on his finger. Auburn stuffed them at the goal because they couldn't move that DL.

Kelly has a loooong row to hoe. The Eagles were 4-12 for a reason. To make the Eagles relevant again he must get a good QB. I don't see one there yet. Is that guy from Breast Virginia the answer? I dunno.
