Those of you saying Seattle is a “read option offense” don’t know what you are talking about. They run it on average of 8 plays a game. Those of you that call Pete Carroll a cheater, what exactly did he get caught cheating on? Those of you that say Richard Sherman was “on adderall and a cheater” which games? Why did he get off and what about the games he “wasn’t on it” and played even better? Those of you that talk about a team that “has never won anything” what does that matter? Most of us live in the present. Watch NFL films if you want to live the glory days of your team that “won something” decades ago, or if sooner have hardly the same team now. Oh and niners fans, 42-13, get used to it…

I’ve been a diehard Seahawks fan for over 20 years and it’s been a tough run. Seattle is a tough city for a sports fan in general when it comes to championships. Huskies (’91) and Sonics (’79) are our only championships for those of you not familiar with our history. Having said this…this is the most excited I’ve been for a season EVER. While nobody wins championships in March and I personally wish that not so many people were picking the Hawks, I do believe that anybody looking objectively at the NFL has to consider us one of the top 3 teams (49ers, Broncos) going into next year. The combination of youth, talent, and intangibles is exciting to see. I was probably one of the least excited fans to hear about Carrol being hired as our coach. (was more excited about Dennis Erickson….look how that turned out). But whether or not they had Wilson rated higher or were tempted to draft him higher really doesn’t matter. I do believe we were VERY lucky to draft Wilson in the 3rd round. He is a type of player/person that you truly root for whether you are a Seahawks fan or not and I think any team would love to have him on their roster. Many players have come through the NFL with more talent (in my opinion) but from what I’ve seen of his character I am proud to have him as my favorite teams’ QB and look forward to many years of outstanding play. I would say this even if he were on another team, though I’m glad he’s not. I believe RGIII was the ROY. I believe Luck may end up being a better QB. But I’d still take Wilson over either one. The only QB I would take over Wilson if I were starting a team from scratch is Aaron Rodgers. That’s based on age and skill level, not because I think Wilson is the 2nd best QB right now. We’ve all seen players come and go with great potential. Players are anointed as the greatest ever after only a few years. I am cautiously optimistic that Wilson will end up being a top 5 QB in the next few years, but If I were a betting man (which I am) I’d say the odds are against it. There are very few QBs that can carry an offense. Football is a team sport and Seattle has been very lucky the past few years to draft players that were not as highly graded…or not anointed the next Lott, Sanders, etc…etc.. The 3 best draft picks in Seahawks history were probably Brian Bosworth, Aaron Curry, and Rick Mirer based on evaluations at the time of the draft. They didn’t turn out too good for us to say the least. Say what you will about Sherman, Chancellor, Browner, Wright, Bryant, Turbin, Unger, Baldwin, Wagner, Etc.. But in my estimation…we were “lucky” to get all of them where we did. And that is why Seattle will contend for Championships’ the next 5 or more years (especially next 2 years). Looking forward to our battles with the 49ers and other teams in NFC West. Worst to first. The only reason why Seattle or SF won’t be the top team in NFC is because of the talent in the division. They are the 2 best, most balanced teams in the NFC without a doubt. I just hope that Seattle is “Lucky” and makes it through the season relatively healthy. If that happens…it’s gonna be a GREAT 2013 for Seattle football fans!!

Ever hear of the CBA? No way the Seahawks could have (or can for a couple years yet) paid Wilson what he’s worth. It’ll come though, when he does get his contract extended he’ll be one of the 2 or 3 best paid players in the NFL if not the #1.

And we didn’t take him in the first or second because we weren’t in the market for a starting QB, we were in the market for a developmental #2, we just got ungodly lucky, which is pretty much what the article is all about … so why the hate?

When are NFL scouts going to start asking themselves the most important question, “can he play the game”? San Diego traded Brees to keep Philip Rivers. How’d that workout for ya? Doug Flutie never was taken seriously. I remember him taking the Bills to the playoffs & then getting benched for Rob Johnson. Who??? The intangibles are as important if not more than 40 speed, height, weight, etc. Thank God for Russell Wilson & thanks to the other 31 teams for having their blinders on. Go Hawks!!!

WOW. Some people are so dumb. The Hawks waited until the 3rd round to get Wilson because they thought they could. They would have missed on Irvin or Wagner if they took him earlier. Plus, Matt Flynn was already on the roster and basically penciled in as the starter. Wilson wasn’t drafted to be an immediate starter, but he proved he could handle the pressure and the NFL play book, so he got the chance and never looked back. Seriously, people just need to put like 10 seconds of thought into their comments before posting. As for Wilson not doing as well in his second year, that’s just comical. Out of the teams that legitimately used the read option, Seattle used it the least. Wilson also isn’t a running QB, he scrambles and finds receivers down field. It’s like what Big Ben does, but he does it with elusiveness instead of just being huge. Oh and his work ethic that’s second to none will GUARANTEE that he doesn’t fall off. The kid just understands the game so well.

Don’t you know, dummy, everybody knows NFL GM’s get together and let the other 31 GM’s know how they grading every draft pick. Lol.

It’s kind of a case where a gamble paid off. Those responsible for it are patting themselves on the back as though they knew all along the Wilson would be there and play well enough to start over Flynn. All part of the master plan.

Let the SEA fans crown them the next dynasty but unfortunately they have to prove it 16x’s a year in an increasingly tough division.

Some of the people on the board here seem confused about the Hawks waiting until round three to take Wilson. Not sure why, but no one said Whiner fans were smart.
If the other 31 teams were not going to draft Wilson then Seattle would have waited til the 7th round. He was only worth what teams were willing to give up for him…at the time of the draft. It is pretty simple. If the market demand for him was a first round pick then the Hawks would have drafted him there. Things of value are only worth what people in the market are willing to pay for them.
Schneider and Carroll gambled that if they grabbed Wagner in the 2nd, that Wilson would be there in the third. The gamble paid off.

Remember, the Searats didn’t necessarily need a QB because they thought their free agent signing of Matt Flynn was going to be the franchise QB. They didn’t need to spend a first round draft choice on a QB. I hate to say it but Cheatey Petey did a great job in evaluating Wilson and others in that draft. The so-called experts need to re-evaluate their scouting of QBs and this desire for a “prototypical” QB size. They need to go for leaders with skill, not meatheads with “prototypical” QB size like Vince Young, Jeff George, Ryan Leaf, Jawalrus, Matt Leinart, etc.

Love the Carroll haters. Why would Seattle draft Wilson in the 1st or 2nd knowing his draft grade was 3-4 round. Doesn’t mean Seattle didn’t think he was worth a 1st round pick. They held to their board knowing that other teams had issues with Wilson’s height. They didn’t. Yes, they could have lost him to someone else but that didn’t happen either. Smart and lucky. Instead they used those picks to get the top rookie pass rusher in the 1st and a candidate for Defensive rookie of the year in the 2nd (Wager).

Russell Wilson NEVER ran the read option BEFORE last year, so the read option fad theory is DEAD! Russell Wilson IS the elite QB you saw last year and he will be for at least the next decade. Get used to it.
