Current, former Cowboys speak at domestic violence rally

In an effort to curb and, ideally, to eliminate domestic violence, two former Cowboys and a current one appeared at a Saturday rally in Dallas.

“It’s amazing that we even need to have this rally, but the momentum needs to take shape,” Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach told the crowd, via ESPN.com.

Also appearing were Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith and current Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant.  Arrested last year for allegedly hitting his mother, Bryant apologized for his role in that altercation.

“You can call a man who hits a woman a lot of things, but you can’t call him a man,” Dallas mayor Mike Rawlings said.

Unfortunately, too many men can’t be called men.  One of every two women in the U.S. will be struck at some point in their lifetimes.

So, guys, let’s always show the proper respect for the women in our lives.  And let’s hope those who don’t face the consequences.

  1. Everyone involved in the rally and this article is aware that men can be victims of domestic violence too, right?

  2. “Unfortunately, too many men can’t be called men. One of every two women in the U.S. will be struck at some point in their lifetimes.”

Where did you get those numbers from?

That first sentence couldn’t be more true, and i totally commend these guys (the former and current Cowboys). Raising awareness to domestic violence is a great cause.

I’m calling BS on the second sentence though. Can you please cite where you got that statistic? It seems like a classic example of over-stating something to prove a point. Domestic violence is a serious enough problem without throwing out bogus stats to prove a point.

  4. I would also suggest we stop beating the KC Chiefs because I’m tired of my team being abused.

  5. Sounds like these first three aren’t men. Well we know ben isn’tn and I bet nem gets beat by his woman, because the “men” who get beat by their “partner” aren’t men either.
