Anthony Adams announces retirement in entertaining fashion

Defensive tackle Anthony Adams was never a Pro Bowler, but his retirement announcement is still one of the more memorable ones we’ve come across.

Adams, who played nine years in the NFL after the 49ers made him a second-round pick in 2003, made a YouTube video to officially announce the end of his NFL career. It’s well-produced with tongue firmly in cheek as Adams tries to interest several media outlets in covering his big announcement. After that fails, he winds up at a mostly empty White Castle where disinterested customers are treated to a faux-press conference.

In between, Adams sings a little Justin Timberlake and puts together a performance that might speak to a future in show business. His football future was pretty much decided for him when he sat out the 2012 season after the Bears didn’t bring him back after the 2011 season.

The video runs four-and-a-half minutes, which is probably four minutes and 29 seconds more than you’ve spent thinking about Adams this offseason. It’s funny enough to be worth the time, however, and we wish Adams plenty of success in his next endeavors.
