The market hasn’t been too strong for pass rushers, but Elvis Dumervil appears to have made out okay.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that he stands to earn up to $35 million over the course of the five-year deal he agreed to with the Ravens on Sunday. Dumervil will get $8.5 million of that money in the first year, which is $500,000 than he would have made if the paperwork on his pay cut had gotten into the league office on time. Sometimes using a fax machine does pay off. Schefter also reports that there’s a $3.5 million injury guarantee for 2014, which adds up to the same $12 million the Broncos would have originally had to pay him for this season.

The deal reportedly won’t be onerous in the first year for the Ravens. Peter King of SI.com reports that Dumervil will count $2.5 million against the cap in 2013 by virtue of having a $1 million salary and $1.5 million of his signing bonus applied right away.

That structure might lead to tough decisions later, but, for now, the Ravens have added a piece that should help keep their defense strong despite all the departures without making it impossible for them to land others that will do the same.
