Schedule apparently is coming on April 16

Watt Getty Images

It’s now officially the time to look for the unofficial clues regarding the date on which the NFL will release the 2013 schedule.

And the biggest clue comes via Mark Durant of the Greenfield (Mass.) Recorder, who has passed along to PFT that he spotted among NFL Network’s online listings a Schedule Release Show to be aired on Tuesday, April 16, at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Landing nine days before the draft, the timing makes sense.  Also, Tuesday has become the usual day of the week on which the NFL pulls the sheet off the new schedule.

The strangest aspect of the listing is that the NFL in recent years has kept the listings for NFL Network vague in the weeks before the schedule release, allowing for flexibility and also creating buzz as folks with nothing better to do (i.e., me) wonder when we’ll find out the “when” that goes with what we already know — the “who” and the “where.”

Think about that for a second.  We already know the opponents and the locations for all 256 regular-season games.  But yet the announcement of the week-by-week configuration of the games will be the dominant news of the sports world, for at least one news cycle.

Eat that, Orioles.

Why is is such a big deal? We already know who’s playing who. It’s just a matter of when. I guess it matters for your TV stuff, but again it feels like something else that the media blows out of proportion. Wouldn’t be surprised if Goddell tried selling tickets to some announcement ceremony with the next few years.

One of the more underrated days of the NFL offseason. And a lot better than listening to Herm Edwards and any of the other ESPN clowns break down Tebow being able to throw a ball into a garbage can 20 yards away.

Remember when it used to come out around March 10th.

  4. ravenator says: Mar 25, 2013 2:57 PM

The only schedule that matters is the Baltimore Ravens. The reigning world champions!

Mercury Morris and the 72 Dolphins, the 2013 Washington Redskins are coming to your yard and taking over the residence. Our Superhuman QB is winning the Superbowl in Superfashion 19-0 record.

Only good Bud Selig has ever done = sticking it to “Lord Goodell” and not loving that baseball game.
Take your ball & run home Roger.

It’s a bid deal because the league is smart enough to know that fans really want to know not to mention fans want to get travel plans ready in-case they are flying to another state to see a game

Not looking forward to going to the Superdome in Bills gear…

goodell and robert kraft are going over the schedule so the patriots toughest opponents will be playing the patriots on a short week after playing a monday night game or after being on the road for 3 consecutive weeks. Kraft is a shyster and always looking for an unfair advantage.

I love it when Tedskins fans talk trash to me. It’s so easy and fun. It’s like taking a test you know all the answers to.

Landover no names, you are a joke.

Do these Redskins fans really believe they are better than Atlanta, San Francisco, or Seattle?…. HA!

  22. ravensdominate says: Mar 25, 2013 4:01 PM

Ravens caps: redskins fans don’t believe they are better than anyone. They just talk trash because that’s all they have. They haven’t won a championship in over 20 years! To rub salt in the wound, they’re one of the most profitable organizations in sports! Redskin fans are such suckers! All they do is lose and pay Dan Snyder for it. All the while their big brother up 95 wins championships and sets the standard.

Enjoy your new name Landover no names!

  23. dalucks says: Mar 25, 2013 4:04 PM

If the Ravens cannot play a home game on Thursday then how come they do not play on Wednesday or Friday night. Are the O’s playing at home on those nights also?

  24. trollhammer20 says: Mar 25, 2013 4:06 PM

Just another day where NFL news will be more interesting to me than any Major League Baseball or the NBA does the entire month…..and yes, I’m fully aware the NBA playoffs start in April.

Peanut87 “Who cares about the schedule.” I guess you’re not married. That’s when the bride makes reservations for what she wants to do and see.

  27. vmannj says: Mar 25, 2013 4:19 PM

Mara already screwed with the ‘boys and ‘skins salary cap. Now we’re just waiting on him and his BFF Roger to screw their schedules too. NYG will begin and end the season at home. Strangely, DAL and WSH will be the only teams with 3 week road trips.

  28. rg3skins says: Mar 25, 2013 4:30 PM

Just to let you guys know, not all Redskins fans are like that. These guys like logicalvoicesays are all trolls. Ignore them and stop hating the Redskins themselves simply because of these trolls. I wouldn’t even be surprised if logicalvoicesays is actually a Cowboys fan just trying to give the Skins a bad rep. As for those Ravens fans saying that we’re Maryland’s “other” team, you need to stop trolling, too. So what, both of their stadiums are in the state of Maryland (FedEx only just in Maryland-otherwise the team based out of VA), and they both have a lot of fans in both states, so the argument that the Ravens are the “real” Maryland team is invalid.

Also it’s good for the ppl who have season tickets that have to request to get the next day day off after a night game and all that stuff

  30. ravensbob says: Mar 25, 2013 4:46 PM

Commissioner Kraft will have some say on where Ravens open on the road……

Caught 3 Cowboys road games last year and spent the weekend in ATL watching the Falcons put a beat down on the G-Men. Looking forward to the schedule release so I can plan my road trips this year. Cowboys @ Saint is big on my list for a trip this year.

Might as well put the whole broncos schedule on prime time. Tons of high profile games- giants, cowboys, patriots, ravens, texans, redskins. Tough schedule but 19-0 baby Super Bowl here we come!!

  34. colts01 says: Mar 25, 2013 10:36 PM

One if most anticipated games will be Broncos at Colts which I will be buying tickets too and flying from Florida to go to just as I do each year. knowing what date will help to plan weekend trip!

  35. mounties14 says: Mar 25, 2013 11:23 PM

Think Denver at Indy may be the highest profile game TV-wise
