Huff won’t wait for Cowboys, has other trips planned

AP

Former Raiders safety Michael Huff grew up near Dallas, and was a star at the University of Texas.

But he’s not going to wait around all day for the Cowboys to balance their checkbook for a chance to return home. The Cowboys have around $100,000 in cap room, preventing them from doing deals right now.

Unlike fellow visitor Justin Durant, Huff said he had a good visit but wouldn’t wait for the Cowboys to get their finances in order to make a deal, according to Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Huff said he had visits set up with the Ravens later this week, and another with the Packers. So while he might want to stay close to home, the ability to play for someone who can, you know, sign him now.

  1. The Cowboys are running free agents around with only 100k in cap space, that’s hilarious! That sounds like Jerrah. How is the Romo extension going? You may want to create some room before you plan your next move Jerrah, but it doesn’t seem like much planning is done down there. He should fire his incompetent GM!

I’m not sure if you knew this or not, cause it certainly seems like you didn’t… but Jerry Jones IS the GM for the Cowboys.

And clearly Romo and Anthony Spencer extensions are making good progress or else Justin Durant wouldn’t have already agreed to a 2-year deal with the Cowboys.

More importantly, as a Cowboys fan, I don’t even want Michael Huff. He’s about to be on the wrong side of 30. The Cowboys are getting old, and getting old fast. They need to either let Matt Johnson/Barry Church grow, and draft a safety.

Or pick up some young talent or at least below 30 talent in the free agency once the extensions are done.

  3. i never knew dinner had anything to do with the cap……good joke though……/sarcasm

  4. the teams that are talking bout sign this Huff guy must be desperate, hes not that good, hes not gonna be a difference maker on yr team, especially if hes a starter, for depth maybe, a #3 or #4 CB

  5. Cap space is tight for sure but they will likely sign Romo and Spencer to deals that will free up enough space to sign a Huff type FA if they want him.

Maybe they just aren’t that into him. Doesn’t appear any other teams are beating down the door to get Huff signed either.

Besides if they draft Vaccaro in the first, he will do just fine and probably cost less.

  6. For you ignorant fans who talk without thinking. On the last day to get under salary cap Cowboys were 6.8 million OVER and by the end of the day managed to get 100-200k UNDER. Mind you league penalized us millions of dollars for the uncapped year.

  7. This is why they’re working out guys available later in free agency. There’s a good chance they’ll still be available by the time contracts are redone. Plenty of good safety prospects in the draft other than Vaccaro. I’d rather see an OG or OT in the first round…

  8. Let GB sign him. He will need help all day long to cover the WR’s in this division which will open up plays for other players.

Megatron, Jennings, Rudolph, Marshall, Jeffrey, and whoever those teams add between now and the start of the season in the draft and free agency.

    Rudolph and Jeffrey, really? LMFAO!
You forgot about Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and James Jones.
    Oh that’s right, they’re other team’s concerns.

Green Bay hasn’t had a real reason to worry about the other teams in the NFC North for quite a while.

  10. Huff…you have never really been a good safety. Prove your worth on the field before you consider yourself a free agent prize, which you are not. He’s just lookin for money he has never deserved.

  11. Ok so if cowboys have only 100k in cap room how in the world will they be able to sign any of the draft picks they chose? Remember you will need about 3 mil in cap space for THIS YEARS draft class.

Goodluck Cowgirls you will need it

  12. The 09 vikings was the last time I had any worries about a division rival….. then their old guys washed up and their window slammed shut after a year.

Vikings/Lions/Bears have a couple strong points, but a lot more holes on their roster compared to us.

We’ll keep owning this division – like the big brother bullying his siblings.

  13. Mr. Huff, I’m sure there are some very nice homes in the greater Baltimore-area that you’d really like. Crabcakes are delicious, too.

And the Ravens have always thought highly of you.

We welcome you to Baltimore with open arms, sir. Look no further… 🙂

  14. The Packers will most likely sweep the division this year.

None of the other teams have done enough to get even near the same level.

Obviously, “any given sunday” like the vikings proved this past season. But let’s be serious. The Packers are by far the best in the division, and it isn’t changing anytime soon.
