Report: Antoine Winfield could accept another offer before visiting Redskins

Antoine Winfield AP

As of now, the Wednesday meeting between the Redskins and cornerback Antoine Winfield is still on the books.

According to a report from Mike Jones of the Washington Post, however, that meeting could still wind up getting cancelled. Jones spoke to a person familiar with Winfield’s thinking who told him that the former Viking has received other offers and “might” cancel his visit to Washington to accept one of the offers from “at least two different teams.”

That said, Winfield is also reportedly “intrigued” about the prospect of joining the Redskins. Since he’s yet to accept one of the reported offers, the suggestion is that Winfield is looking for something more than those teams are willing to pay. Creating a bidding war, real or perceived, would be a good way to get that offer.

Jones’ report has no indication of the other teams with interest. The Vikings are believed to be in contact with Winfield, whose departure from Minnesota had more to do with his salary than his performance in the 2012 season.

he knows the redskins dont have a prayer chance of making any kind of superbowl run at least within the next 10 years or more, why waste his time with a mediocre at best football team, if he wants to win now, sign with the Colts!!

Hope he comes back to MN. Stand up guy and great tackler. Wish him the best.

Spielman, don’t be a DB. PAY THE MAN! I would expect that kind of treatment from Ted Thompson, not the Vikes!

Patriots need cornerbacks desperately. Maybe Winfield will take a Robert Kraft discount?

Don’t mean against the Colts? He’s a cornerback, interceptions make him money. And nobody chucks up more picks than “tap dancin’” Andrew Luck.

What has he done for you lately? Can you name any of his recent draft picks?

Winfield is about 2 years too late. It used to be a perfect way to drive up offers to say that the Redskins wanted you. Now the Redskins have no money to lavish on free agents so it’s basically an empty ploy.

At this point, I’d say the Redskins are a back up plan only if he’s looking to sign with the highest bidder.

He’s coming back to Buffalo. Close out his career with the team that drafted him.

@Peytonsneck18..please tell me how the ‘Skins dont have a “Prayer” to win a SB in the next 10 years, since you are so astute at reading a team’s future you know nothing about.

Yes sign with the colts, they are so good. They signed Matt Hasselbeck and some other mediocre players, they are going to win it all this year baby, don’t forget they franchised Pat the Punter…lmao what a joke. Redskins and Colts arent that much of a difference.

Here’s my theory on Peytonsneck18 obsession with bashing RG3 and the Redskins. I think Peyton went to high school with Griffin and was embarrassed in front of the whole school at lunch time when Peyton asked RG3 to the prom and Griffin said “thanks but I like girls and already have a date with your sister” Peyton from that day forward swore that he would bash RG3 no matter how many times Griffin would prove Peyton wrong through college and now the pros. Let it go Peyton. Your team has a good qb too that Redskins fans aren’t concerned with. Move on my friend.

At least Winfield gutted out the Vikings humiliating season ending loss to the Packers. That’s leadership. Ponder watched from the sideline in a hoody because he received a bruise from the Packers the week before.

Not going to happen. “If” he makes it to DC tomorrow, he will not leave without signing. Not once he is wined and dined at Morton’s Steakhouse with Haslett, Morris, Shanahan, and Snyder.

  22. purpleguy says: Mar 26, 2013 5:35 PM

Winfield is a pretty sharp dude, has made a ton of money, and likely wants to go to a proven contender in this his last year in the NFL. Even though my team and the Colts are playoff teams, they are hardly proven contenders, the Skins aren’t there yet, and the Bucs — please. I’d be very surprised if he didn’t go to a more legit SB contender.

  23. vikingsgohard says: Mar 26, 2013 6:11 PM

He may as well go to the skins???… That’s where all the other vikes unwanted DB,S end up ?… They have C.Griffin an M.Williams two of his ole buds

  24. redskinsfreak91 says: Mar 26, 2013 6:27 PM

Winfield was ranked as the number 1 cb in the NFL according to pro football focus. I’d love to see him in a skins jersey if only for a year.

RGIII will be back to form. I don’t know why this nincompoop peyton must show everyone how uneducated he is. Skins win NFC this year, and then on to the Super Bowl in the house that Johnson and Mara built. Sorry peyton, but Leaf will be writing architectural plans in 2 years.

    HTTR!!!!!

To the writers at ProFootball Talk how much more do we have to take of Peytonsneck18 constant idiotic comments. I thought there was a policy to comment on the article and not just lay out this negative filth for no reason. I say to all Redskins fans or fans of any team to not respond or check agree or disagree from this moron any longer. Please ban this idiot like you banned boysroll please please please every time I read one of his posts I lose brain cells.

seriously speilman, quit screwing around. we all know how valuable winfield has been to this team. not only with his play on the field, but his professionalism and leadership with the organization. I cannot believe antoine is being treated like this. the guy can still play. maybe not %90 of the snaps, but he was still our best DB last year and this is one hardcore vikes fan that will be supremely disappointed if we do not bring him back. lets do the right thing here guys.

    bucrightoff says:
“Aaron Rodgers, Randall Cobb, Greg Jennings (whom you signed), James Jones, Clay Matthews BJ Raji….. ”

    The question was “recently”…

Rodgers is in his 9th year in the NFL.

Jennings is in his 8th year…

Jones is in his 7th year…

Raji and Mathews are in their 5th year…

I’ll give you that Cobb is relatively new – only his 3rd year.

But if that’s the best list you can put together for TT…

And FWIW – Ponder led his team to the playoffs in his 2nd year in the NFL, 1st full year as a starter. Remind me how many YEARS it took for Rodgers to get his first start, much less make the playoffs…

The way I see things, The Redskins need four all pros playing corner to slow the Chip Kelly attack. I mean the level of pace that he plays his offense at will jelly their legs by the end of the first qtr. And theres simply nothing you can do about it. Speaking of legs hows that one legged QB doing? Lol Go buy some Cousins jerseys. Youll need them.

Lol lets see how chump I mean chip kelly does in the nfl first before u start bashing a 10-6 team.. u can’t get much worse then 4-12 , just because 20 year old college kids can play in chump I mean chip kellys system doesn’t mean it will translate in the nfl..good try thou

  34. rg3skinsgetsome says: Mar 26, 2013 7:45 PM

Ponder is not a good qb..he threw for 65 yards in one game..its a one man show and that’s ap..rodgers didn’t get to play because he was siting on the bench because a hall of fame player was still playing..can u say brett farve..u should know that guy pretty well

  35. rg3skinsgetsome says: Mar 26, 2013 7:48 PM

Did ponder even threw for 2,000 yards?????? Aron rodgers is hands down best qb in the league. .
