Vaughn Martin visits Dolphins

The Dolphins hosted free-agent defensive lineman Vaughn Martin on Tuesday, the club said.

The 26-year-old Martin started 12 games at left defensive end in San Diego’s 3-4 front in 2012, recording 19 tackles. He was a starter for the Chargers in each of the last two seasons.

NFL reporter Adam Caplan, who covers the league for a variety of media outlets, reports that 6-7 teams have shown interest in the 6-4, 297-pound lineman, with both 3-4 and 4-3 teams among his potential suitors. Martin would seemingly figure as a tackle for a 4-3 scheme like the one Miami employs.

Jason La Canfora of CBS recently reported that the Chargers wanted to bring back Martin, but multiple other teams had also been linked to the Western Ontario product.

The Lions could really use this guy.

I’m not exactly sure what the Chargers off season plan is. A lot of key pieces have walked away and they’re not replacing them with anyone noteworthy.
Phillip Rivers cannot be pleased. What good does it do to replace the head coach and GM if the new regime doesn’t change anything.

Well, Vaughn was drafted with the expectations to be a freak pick like cromartie was, his intangibles for never playing football were high. It was a good pick by AJ because he wasnt DOMINANT but rather skilled to play a position some players take years to learn.

I always like Martin but i wont lie and say i didnt scratch my head. TT needs to resign him or its just showing the fanbase the CEO aka Spanos has no clue about football.

He was a raw talent that was a gamble, and i believe he is the only gamble that DIDNT sustain injury. Get it done TT. Dont let our depth ont he defensive side of the ball dip or you are already sh** outta luck with the fanbase.

Salary cap issues from the previous regime. They are going to have to bite the bullet in 2013 and hope their draft class and mid-level free agents overachieve.

Martin is a nice role player but he lost his starting job to Kendall Reyes. Corey Liuget is the other starting DE and both are young studs. If Martin wants to start then he will have to go elsewhere
