Vikings keep special teamer Marvin Mitchell

Stefan Logan, Chris Kluwe, Marvin Mitchell AP

With the draft a month away, teams are in fill-in-the-blanks mode, and veterans want to make sure they have a place to land.

With that as context, the Vikings have brought back linebacker Marvin Mitchell, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Mitchell’s a good reserve and special teamer, the kind of guy that teams traditionally try to keep around for consistency in the kicking game. The former seventh-rounder has also played for the Saints and Dolphins.

Good reserve for the Vikings. Good versatile guy to have around on game day in case something happens to a starter during the game.

Special teams is his only saving grace….as a backup LB, he’s a liability unfortunately.

Did he play in the humiliating season ending loss to the Packers?

  5. vikesfansteve says: Mar 26, 2013 2:04 PM

Yeah he played and he had a holding penalty on kuhn’s shoulder pads that cost a 40 yd return to be called back. You obviously don’t watch the games you cooment on in every single Vikings thread, mcnutbreath.

Weren’t there any Packers castoffs available that the Vikings could overpay to do that job?

He’s a solid player. I understand it’s not a flashy signing, but it’s good to get these role players under contract to free up manpower to look at the bigger picture. No need to make fun.

The Viqueefs still have absolutely NO CHANCE of EVER winning a Superbowl. The Almighty 13 time World Champion Green Bay Packers are poised to win their 14th World Championship. Enjoy overpaying for more of the Packers sloppy seconds though. Loveboat.Wizzinator.Losing 4 Superbowls. LOLZ. Go Pack Go!!!

This guy probably has a shot as a starting QB if he wants to play offense instead of defense and special teams. Just saying those are some bad quarterbacks on their roster…

I’m not attacking you, just trying to help. We’re ambassadors for our squad, let’s act like it. Those other guys you mention should be ignored, they’re not worth the time and effort it takes to respond to a post.

Sounds like a bunch of butt-hurt packer fans…..still sore about the fact that the regular season-ending loss to the Vikes kept you from getting a bye in the first week and a road date against the Niners? You know, the Niners that wound up in the Superbowl instead of GB……oops, there goes AP past your defense again!

Oh, sorry. I thought this was just a bit.

Marvin forced a fumble on Heath Miller that completely killed the Steelers momentum one Sunday night (Halloween) in the SuperDome.

Every team has players like Mitchell at the bottom of their roster and every now and then, they make a play. He’s worth keeping around.

Only on PFT would a minor roster move like signing another team’s castoff, a former 7th round draft choice, yield such insightful comments.

If I were a Viking fan, I would be proud for two reasons, first, FA activity is almost always better than no activity and he isn’t an ex Packer which means he probably has something left in the tank and the Vikings probably did way over pay for the guy like they do every time they sign an ex Packer.

The truth of the matter is that it matters little who the Vikings sign, they are going anywhere with Mr. Noodlearm at QB.

  23. icecubeusedtobeangry says: Mar 26, 2013 6:58 PM

Yup ’cause Longwell sure didn’t have anything left in the tank when the Vikings signed him….
