Free agent receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey visited the Lions today, and he said afterward that he thinks Detroit could be the right place for him this season.
Heyward-Bey told Anwar S. Richardson of MLive.com that he thinks the Lions have a dangerous offense with Reggie Bush, Calvin Johnson, Brandon Pettigrew, Tony Scheffler, Nate Burleson and Ryan Broyles.
“The sky’s the limit,” Heyward-Bey said. “Adding Reggie with Calvin, Matt, Pettigrew, Scheffler, all these guys. You still got the vet, Nate. You got the young guy, Broyles, who is coming off an injury, but still brings. It would be nice to be a part of something like that. I just got to sit back and think about it.”
Heyward-Bey also said he’d like to play for Lions coach Jim Schwartz, who like him grew up in the Baltimore area.
“Coach Schwartz is a good guy,” Heyward-Bey said. “He’s from where I’m from back home in Maryland. They were talking good things. We’ll see what happens.”
The seventh overall pick of the 2009 NFL draft, Heyward-Bey was released by the Raiders this month. He caught 41 passes for 606 yards and five touchdowns last season.
