The Panthers cleared nearly $7 million worth of cap room now, by restructuring the contract of left tackle Jordan Gross.

Gross was scheduled to make $8.7 million this year in base salary, but according to former player agent Joel Corry, Gross will now make $5.5 million this year. The deal also allows him to void his contract next year.

The Panthers had been talking about this deal with Gross for weeks, with both sides willing to move to keep him around.

While he might not be playing at a Pro Bowl level any longer, he’s still a solid starter at left tackle, and gives the Panthers one less position to address, along with the ability to do some more bargain shopping in the free agent market, prior to the draft.
