The long-awaited deal is now done: Osi Umenyiora has agreed to terms on a contract with the Falcons.

Atlanta and Umenyiora, a free agent defensive end who has been linked to the team for weeks, reached a deal on a two-year contract today, Jay Glazer of FOX Sports reports.

When Umenyiora said last week that it would mean more to him to win a Super Bowl with the Falcons than his Super Bowls with the Giants meant to him, it strongly suggested that Umenyiora had his heart set on getting something done with Atlanta. Now something finally is done.

The 31-year-old Umenyiora has played his entire 10-year career with the Giants. He’s coming off a disappointing season in which he recorded 6.0 sacks, but in Atlanta he’ll be counted upon to replace the departed John Abraham, who had a team-high 10 sacks for the Falcons in 2012.
