Avril looks forward to playing for “super hyped” coach

Getty Images

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll has a reputation for being enthusiastic and high energy.  One of his newest players has experience that directly.

“Coach Pete Carroll was super hyped, and they say that’s how he is all the time, you know, super hyped and and enthused,” former Lions and current Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril told Pro Football Talk on Thursday.  “He just goes through things so fast, just telling you we think we can use you here, we think you can do this and just going through different things.  And he’s going through it pretty fast, kind of like you can’t get a word in a little bit, but it was all fun though.  He was saying nothing but good things, saying that I believe I can hopefully come in and help the team out.”

So how will the Seahawks do with Avril in the mix?

“I don’t do predictions, I think the Seahawks will be real good this year,” Avril said.  “I’m not throwing out any records or anything like that, but I think we have a chance to do some things and get into postseason play long as we can stay healthy and play to the potential, I think we can do some big things.”

That’s the prevailing view when it comes to the Seahawks.  The only good news for every team not named the Seahawks is that the preseason champion rarely becomes the real champion.

    Hype is the key word

Nice to hear a player not overhyping. Can’t wait for the season to start. Go Hawks!!

  3. watchdawg1103 says: Mar 28, 2013 8:26 PM

Avril is a big pick up for an already good defense.

  4. forty9asty says: Mar 28, 2013 8:30 PM

Much respect to Avril for not coming out and making crazy predictions. Especially his part about taking the injury risks and playing up to potential into consideration. That’s the thing with the “Any given sunday (or Thursday or Monday)” NFL… You never know what to expect. We all remember the “Dream Team” Eagles and how on paper in that offseason they looked stacked and truly scary.
I look forward to the couple Seattle/San Fran matchups this year, they should be some really good, hard fought games, most likely in primetime too.
But with the way the trend goes in the league, maybe we should all watch out for Jacksonville being a powerhouse next year…

    Heck, who am i kidding…

The haters are hyping the Seahawks more than the fans are. The fans are excited.

I remember sitting in the parking lot of the Stick two years ago with my red and gold brothers and saw one of the most hillarious things ever..Some typical looking Seattle dorks had theyre stupid 12th man flagpole tied to their van. Then some tattooed out cholo Niner fan walks over to them and single handedly rips it down and walks off with it while 5 guys in Seahawk jerseys stood there looking shocked then one of theyre butt ugly wifes starts screaming someone call security while all the Niners fans in the parking lot start hootin and hollering at them they looked like they wanted to cry!….Great times I believe you can still find it on you tube..

  7. norcalmafia says: Mar 28, 2013 8:58 PM

They wanted to make the Niner vs Seagull games primetime but then the executives at the networks realised no one has ever heard of Seattle or the Seahawks. And the people that have dont really care anyways.

  8. hawkforlife says: Mar 28, 2013 9:04 PM

“with my red and gold brothers”

And you all thought ripping off and threatening other NFL fans was a good thing. Useless morans!

  9. seaeagle707 says: Mar 28, 2013 9:08 PM

With the way big names are traveling around the league during free-agent signings this year, I will look forward to watching several teams this year. Its almost as if its a fulfillment of talking with your friends and saying; “Imagine if they had so-and-so, or this one, or that one.” Should be a good season, if North Korea doesn’t annihilate us by then

  10. squared80 says: Mar 28, 2013 9:08 PM

Super-hyped at skirting the rules and getting away with it?

  11. seaeagle707 says: Mar 28, 2013 9:15 PM

This is surreal. A no class SF scumbo admitting to no class SF Neanderthal behavior. It just doesn’t get any better than that.

And where exactly would you put Schwartz on the “super hyped” scale?

  14. osiris33 says: Mar 28, 2013 9:57 PM

I have only one thing to say: 42-13

Norcalmafia – nice story pimp while you were making fun of some Seattle nerds, I was probably laying this seattle pipe in your woman on your back seat!

You wonder why it felt it so loose. Step your game up before you run into a man like me! Always spewing this nonsense on these posts.

Side note – your ignorance does not represent majority of Niner fans just the idiotic ones who think somehow because Cali is more popular that it makes you ” cooler/Harder” hmm..

Dude talk football on here or keep it pushin, we can debate all day whose harder but this about 2 great teams? Not this trivial ish, son!

  16. mjkelly77 says: Mar 28, 2013 10:08 PM

By October he’ll be homesick for the Lions.

  17. peytonsneck18 says: Mar 28, 2013 10:12 PM

and super overated team, best thing in seattle is “greens” , i was stationed in bremerton, that whole place and state is lame, no wonder they leagalized it, its depressing there

  18. thestrategyexpert says: Mar 28, 2013 10:31 PM

You gotta win the player before he or she can win the play. Step 1 of enlightening the player’s mind is complete. Not a bad step number to start with.

  19. rufusporter says: Mar 28, 2013 10:39 PM

Funny all these whiner fans are suddenly feeling so insecure. I guess a beatdown like the one the Seahawks put on them in Seattle will do that.

Please stop representing yourself as a member of our fanbase. You are the equivalent of logicalvoicesays in niner cloth. What Avril said was very respectable. Frankly I was surprised he said this considering how much time he spent with Suh. You can take the seahawks as a joke all you want but you will look even more foolish than you already do. Sure the hype may be a little strong as the “best team in the NFL” but they will certainly be up in that mix. It’s pure ignorance to think otherwise. Like it or not they will be a thorn inside for the next several years. I think the bigger question long term will be which coach is best suited to supplant their coordinators catching other gigs. JH certainly has Offense, Pete has Defense. Which one can make the better opposite side hires will go a long way in that rivalry

With every post, I realize more and more that norcalmafia is an 8-year old. I apologize to the 8-year old children out there, but that is about the closest approximation I can come up with. He is just a sad, sad little boy.

    The San Francisco 49ers

    Super Bowl Losers

2nd place is the 1st Loser

49ers won’t hafta worry about losing the Super Bowl next season, thanks to the Seattle Seahawks……

  24. rickyspanish24 says: Mar 28, 2013 11:29 PM

When it’s a Manning team, or Brady, or Rodgers, or Brees, or Roethlisberger it’s not preseason hype. But when it’s it Seattle it’s overhype.
    Got it.
After this season you hypocritical losers will be out of excuses for Russell. Then what?

  25. trollhammer20 says: Mar 28, 2013 11:48 PM

In case you forgot, our last meeting was in primetime.

You don’t remember that? Let me refresh your memory:

    Seattle Seahawks: 42
    San Francisco 49ers: 13

  26. raiddawgz says: Mar 29, 2013 12:12 AM

Sounds like they should start drug testing coaches. …”tweeker”!

  27. rublestiltzkin says: Mar 29, 2013 12:31 AM

I get the rivalry. I get the mincing of words on postings. Albeit, forty whiner fans do troll a little too much. And they rarely back up their claims with any shred of logic or provable facts- see repeated talk about the “dream team”. Hey, I even get trash talking Pete Carroll. People usually talk trash when too afraid to give credit where it’s due, especially to a rival. But this piece of work, Norcal whatever, views his shining moment as a whiner fan as the one where some dude ripped a decoration off of a car? He even called his own guy a “cholo”. I think this guy maybe one of the classiest people ever. My favorite moment at a football game was a football play. I guess if I didn’t understand the game, I’d have to find something else to grasp onto too. Seattle-42, San Fran-13 just sayin

  28. hawkdawg88 says: Mar 29, 2013 12:39 AM

I was there. It wasn’t even that close.

  29. norcalmafia says: Mar 29, 2013 1:21 AM

Seattle….home of the flannel wearing ..corduroy and bergenstock non trophy having lames..
Last I checked troll 49ERS have 5 trophies you have none..The 49ers have some of the greatest players to ever play in this game you have M Hassleback and B Bosworth..Keep your regular season win over us cause thats the low standard your loser franchise has been reduced to..As long as you can beat the big bad big brother Niners just once you lames are dancing in the a joke of a franchise..Is there a sorrier one in all of sports? Oh yeah the Seattle Mariners… no wonder Seattle has a high depression rate..Everything up there sucks from the weather to sports..sorry bro…hahahah

Thank you for this follow up, Mr Kuselias. I’m happy with Cliff’s career in Detroit, but I’m glad he got his ‘Mario Money’ elsewhere.

Also, norcalmafia, there is only one good troll on PFT, and its logicalvoicesays. He’s too ridiculous to take seriously, while your comments… could be real??

  31. seahawksdan72 says: Mar 29, 2013 2:47 AM

Hey norcal is excited.he must have gotten out of jail or his mommy is letting him stay up late or just glad we can read his stupid posts.the only reason he is on here is because he is scared.its alright dont be scared.

One of those dorks would prolly mess u and ur chulos up. Only an imbisal would find that funny or waste time in his life postin about it.

Thats really something to brag about norcalmafia…. being that you think it was great entertainment tells alot about who you are as a person. Please do tell more stories, make yourself look like more of a gutless coward. Ive seen logicalvoice look scummier than that… you are slippin.

  37. joey49er says: Mar 29, 2013 7:45 AM

Cliff is a clown. Lol. And here’s a memory refresher niners have won the last 5 put of 6 last meetings vs Seahawks. We are the NFC champs and the NFC champions. 5 time Super Bowl winners. I guess the hawk fans like coming in second place lol

  38. jimmyt says: Mar 29, 2013 8:16 AM

Last I saw, the Rams own the NFC West.

  39. xplicitpits says: Mar 29, 2013 1:46 PM

Wow that’s a first! Seattle’s now called the preseason champion. Before it was “stupid” “reckless” “problem child players & coaches” & know its pre season champion. What’s next PFT? You’ll actually say they had the best draft out of all the NFL teams draft day, but make a comment that precedes it stating “the team who wins the draft, rarely wins the championship!”??????

PFT is so biased! Pro Football Tabloid

  40. allidoiswin55 says: Mar 29, 2013 3:12 PM

Joey49er – please check the stats stop reposting stupid made up records!

The Hawks and Niners have split 2 of 3 seasons now. The Seahawks joined the NFCW in the 2000’s and since have owned the division.

The Seahawks have won nearly twice as many division titles, more victories, more playoff appearances and wins, and have made the playoffs 7 or 8 out of 10 years now. They rebuilt in a matter of 2 seasons and one of them they made the playoffs and won a game, both made a SB and only 1 (Seahawks) was actually robbed of a title. 1 questionable call doesn’t compare to the debauchery that was superbowl 40.

Seahawks have done that, all the while the niners picked in the top ten almost exclusively, and we’re the doormat of the division.

Not saying former Niner dynasties are nothing, however they hold no merit for today’s teams. Stuff that happened nearly 2 decades ago doesn’t make either team better than the other now.

If you want to count anything count th head to head meetings, which clearly the he seahawks have owned them since they started, but don’t let the facts miss you.

  41. jadams2514 says: Mar 29, 2013 3:29 PM

My favorite part of this article-

    “I don’t do predictions”

“I think the Seahawks will be pretty good this year.”

    Isn’t that a….prediction?

Contradicting one’s self in the same breath is a rare talent.
