Darryl Tapp headed to Washington

Darryl Tapp AP

The Redskins are being forced to shop selectively, and they’ve added a guy with some pass-rush potential from within the division.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, former Eagles defensive end Darryl Tapp has agreed to a one-year deal with the Redskins.

Tapp has 24.0 sacks in seven NFL seasons, and didn’t exactly fit the “bigger-is-better” profile new Eagles coach Chip Kelly wants on defense.

He’ll have to convert to a 3-4 set and find a niche as a reserve, but the former second-rounder has shown the ability to get to quarterbacks at times.

Look at the Redskins trying to be the Eagles! Soon the impersonator RGIII will show his true colors this year and Washington will return to the basement of the NFCPhiladelphia.

Welcome to DC Darryl Tapp, it’s a good signing I think he will do a good job filling in for Rob Jackson while Jackson is sitting out the first 4 games of the season because of his drug suspension.

He was a good player. Not a starter, but a good backup.

Great move. I’ve had the honor of meeting him a couple times in my life (growing up in Hampton Roads and playing sports together) and I can truly say that he was raised right and is a stand up guy. He’ll fit into the locker room just fine…Im sure he’ll do his best to contribute however he can. His dad, who works at the local Men’s Warehouse in Chesapeake is more than likely beside himself with excitement.

    Welcome home

To the Eagles fan who posted first, RG3’s true colors are he’s a superstar and the reigning NFL ROY and a class guy. This signing was for depth bc Rob Jackson has to sit first 4 weeks. I think it was a smart move

This should pretty much be an indication my Skins go DB with their first (2nd Rd) and second (3rd Rd) picks.

Well how do eagles feel about going Past Redskins like by enumerating their roster with the dream team status . Y’all mad the skins fried y’all last year & years to come . Don’t you wish you had an rg3 on your team , oh weight you have Vick , but I do have respect for Vick , still being on the team , cuz with out him y’all some trash just like if skins didnt have RGIII , but we done have Kirk . Plus picking up players in free agency isn’t trying to be like anyone , it’s mainly trying to evaluate skilled players & upgrade your team if that player works out for the organization . Tell me what did the eagles try to be like by signing the players fir the so called dream team lol .

In the words of Mr. Freeze, Redskin fans,”CHILL”. All you get from Daryl Tapp is 6 sacks in pre season. Don’t start talking like you have some impact player that’s going to dig out this secondary from the bottom 5 in the league. Also not having D Hall will save you over 200 yrds in penalties this upcoming season, it is making this secondary worse. Redskins added no D help. Another season of scraping this defense off the bottom of the defensive stats ranking.

    D. Tapp is a good LB reserve and ST replacement for ‘Zo Alexander. Plus he gets to come by home to the D.C area. Nice depth signing.

Hey @zam0854…Your post shows you know nothing about the ‘Skins. Tapp is a depth signing as a LB reserve and ST player. This fills the void left by Lorenzo Alexander who signed in ‘Zona. Do your homework before talking trash.

Decent player. Good pickup if he fits.

  24. ronbelle says: Mar 28, 2013 5:19 PM

Skins need to trade Rak , for some picks while he’s worth something now . He hasn’t played a full season almost two years now & he’s a pass rusher & young his market price would add up to a nice 2 or 3 round pick if traded . This years draft has a lot of capable young pass rushers .

The 18 million Cap hit has to be the best thing that ever happened to the skins. They are finally resigning most of their own free agents and the scouting department is doing there homework. They are looking like the Ravens front office more and more. It’s a welcome sight.

I predict they won’t win the NFC East but they will make it to the championship game this year. HTTR!

  37. ronbelle says: Mar 28, 2013 8:47 PM

Three Super Bowls = Redskins no Super Bowls = Eagels & didn’t the Eagels pull a Redskin move by signing up every washed up players from other teams two years ago ? Look who’s talking John Tavolta , the lonely Eagels fans have a voice lol !

  38. sadskinsfan89 says: Mar 28, 2013 8:55 PM

I see the same posters on all skins articles. It just cracks me up that u cant get enough skins can ya? and is there really a need to post smack talk 4-5 times? Dont worry about the skins they will be just fine but all the hate is funny

  39. ronbelle says: Mar 28, 2013 9:11 PM

You’re right bro ! But I wish your peers stop using the same quotes as well , like saying RGIII , want last cuz I’m sorry it’s like looking in a mirror , the skins & eagles have done almost the same moves in the past in FA. & the Qb situation is this , both teams have a Qb. That can make plays out the pocket which both teams had major injuries to the most important position the QB . So why even talk about something which is a double standard move I can say to even decipher on . Years pass Eagels have owned the NFC East but that’s years past & teams grow old & a new dawn comes to play . Not saying the skins will win the NFC East every year but they’ll come to play & it’ll be a good game .

  40. zeekey2013 says: Mar 28, 2013 9:39 PM

Dan Snyder move. Haha! Way to spend your money wiseley Washington have fun back in last place!

  41. buzzjunior42 says: Mar 28, 2013 10:41 PM

It is soo funny how any NFC East division rival is always quick to point out the end for RG3…is that wishful thinking?? Cause he came in in his Rookie year and went 5-1 in the division? Go to bed and dream. He will be back and just as good. If it helps you feel better, keep saying he is done. Your the reason he is up working out before you wake up and still working out when you are home eating dinner. Please do keep doubting him. HTTR

Blah, blah, blah, more Redskins troll talk, blah, blah, blah!

Indianapolis this city that gets people to visit twice a year for two races. Other than that, no one every goes there.

Your team has just as many Super wins in the 90’s and 2000’s as the Skins. Even though you couldn’t do the math.

  43. competitivecompetitioncompeter says: Mar 29, 2013 1:08 AM

Tapp got his start in Seattle. He was an explosive pass rusher, got a few sacks and a TON of pressures and QB hits, this with having one hand in one of those funny lookin’ ball/club casts.

He has to stay a 1-down player though, because for a DE he is PUNY and if you feature him opponents will FEAST on running at him. I never saw any indication indication he was good in space (ability? scheme?), so I’m skeptical how well he’ll transition to being 3-4 OLB.
