Report: Steelers giving Ahmad Bradshaw a physical

Redskins Giants Football AP

Could the Steelers be zeroing in on a potential lead back?

Aditi Kinkhabwala of NFL.com reported Thursday that the Steelers will attempt to sign ex-Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw — assuming they are pleased with the results of a club-administered physical he’s receiving today.

The 27-year-old Bradshaw rushed for 1,015 yards in 2012. He is coming off of foot surgery. The Giants released Bradshaw earlier in the offseason.

Bradshaw, who ranks No. 76 on PFT’s Free Agent Hot 100, would likely become the Steelers’ top tailback were he to join Pittsburgh. The Steelers’ ground game sputtered for most of last season, and one-time starting back Rashard Mendenhall signed with Arizona earlier in March.

But they signed Plaxico! That has to be the signing that will put this team back in the superbowl! Hah, this team is so desperate to make a splash. I bet their fans claim Bradshaw will be a stud. What a joke of a franchise. You could only wish you drafted Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce. Cheers!

And with the 1st pick in the 2014 draft – the steelers select…

Good luck with those feet and keeping him on the field. He won’t practice and will miss at least a couple games.

  4. n0hopeleft says: Mar 28, 2013 4:18 PM

He fits their style of player extremely well.
This dude rarely goes down on initial tackles.

    Sad to see him go.

@ravenator, Why come in an troll a Steeler story? Explain to me why Pitt signing an established running back is a bad move?
1st pick in the draft, you are insane and obviously have little to no knowledge of the NFL. The Steelers were a train wreck this year and still pick in the middle of the draft, zero chance they are worse next year or even sniff the top 5 picks in the draft for 2014.
It’s hilarious that your team won the Super Bowl, yet you spam a legitimate football story (which are hard to find this time of year)

@nohopeleft, thanks for the smart comment, it is rare and nice to see amongst these boards.

Personally I have always liked him, and the move won’t hurt Pitt and will actually give me hope that their back can break a big play of even a tackle.

Mom! ravenator is on the computer during his nap time again!! Get down to the basement and cover him with his blanket and put that binkie in his mouth!

Is there anything more certain on PFT right now that ravenator piping up within the first 5 replies on a Steelers post?

If Bradshaw is healthy, he could be a great addition. He runs hard and does not go down on first contact.

BTW troll, we also could have drafted sergio kindle, the tub of goo that is mount cody and “the first round bust waiting to move to safety” jimmy smith.

Pay more attention to your own team. It’s only going to get tougher each year as joe flaccid’s bloated contract continues to pile up huge numbers.

    As the Nest Burns…

    GO STEELERS!

The Ravens defense let fat slob and out of shape 3rd down back Jonathan Dwyer get on the outside for a touchdown on their home field (let alone Byron Leftwhich…B..y..r..o..n.. L..e..f..t.w..h.i..c..h.. run a 50 yarder in for a T.D in the slop at Heinz.)

What do you think a healthy Bradshaw can do? Slice and dice is comin! ravenator won’t be able to cash in what his mouth will spew in a few short months this time around.

  13. Just a Fan says: Mar 28, 2013 4:42 PM

Nice fit, should have a lot of catches for Ben. Captain Checkdown Flacco would love this guy!

  14. Stiller43 says: Mar 28, 2013 4:42 PM

Bradshaw would be a solid signing, assuming he can stay healthy (which is a big assumption).

If they sign him, i would look for them to draft someone in the 4th-ish round…instead of needing to draft one in the 2nd or 3rd to play right away.

  15. aj4569 says: Mar 28, 2013 4:45 PM

Raven’s fans are like their player’s a bunch of loud mouth bums. The Steelers are going to beat the ratbirds twice this year and bradshaw is going to make a great addition to the Steelers if they sign him. GO STEELERS.

The days of needing to reach for a running back in the early rounds are over. There is value to be had in the 4th-5th rounds, especially snagging a solid back worth grooming to take over as feature back in a few years.

If healthy, Bradshaw runs with the certain attitude we’ve been missing since Willie Parker (even though he was small, dude ran hard.)

If Bradshaw signs, it’ll probably be on the CHEAP on a 2 year contract and teach our young draft pick the ropes. Solid as you can get on the market.

I expect the Steelers to go safety first round. Maybe Matt Elam since we lost Mundy & Allen to FA. Safety is a high priority.

Hell, if the Steelers special teams doesn’t blunder at Heinz and if Mike Wallace doesn’t lose a crucial fumble (SOFT!) then Baltimore EASILY gets swept by Charlie Batch and Byron Leftwhich! Let alone not even playing Roethlisberger or Brown in the lineup.

The Steelers defense held Flacco, Rice and the entire Ravens offense to ABYSMAL performances last year. No doubt if healthy, the Steelers still contend for the Lombardi. No worries whatsoever. We’ll be back. Mark my words.

Ok as a giants fan let me say bradshaw is a great addition to any team and he will be missed and wish him luck goin forward and for evey steelers fan in this thread you should like this… Theres no way ravenator isnt a woman. His “insight” reminds me of those “die hard” chiken head female fans that claim they love their team while they scream at the tv that the team needs to work harder on 5th down so they can score a touchback and go to the super series. My point being clearly those women dont know anything about football just like this no nothing ravens fan doesnt have a clue that overpaying joe flacco (who is no eli manning or big ben in the least) is gunna destroy them this year cause their defense will be worse than notre dame in the bcs title game. Just saying.

    Ravenator,

The steelers might have gotten tebowed (in denver), but the ravens got batch slapped in baltimore.

And btw, batch was the backup to our backup.

  25. bradybbgoat says: Mar 28, 2013 5:27 PM

Hopefully the money is heavily tied in with incentives.

When Bradshaw plays at his best, he’s one of the foremost backs in the league. He’s inconsistent, though.

If the Steelers get him healthy and playing up to his potential it will be a real coup for a team that’s had a quiet offseason.

  26. stainlessstill says: Mar 28, 2013 5:28 PM

You know what’s hilarious? Old man Chuck is pushing 40, didn’t start for years, couldn’t throw 5 yards in Cleveland and started the year as Pittsburgh FOURTH QB in rotation, went on the road TO Baltimore and beat the Ravens, even with EVERY weapon on offense HEALTHY to boot. What a laugh. Flacco has looked like Tebow in more games than Tebow has looked like Tebow. SAD. Enjoy 120million dollar jumpballs and dumpoffs. When healthy, the Steelers are the force. No way around it.

  27. stillers213 says: Mar 28, 2013 5:32 PM

I would prefer the Steelers pound it with Dwyer on early downs and use Bradshaw primarily on passing downs or no-huddle. Either way, Dwyer and Bradshaw may make a nice combo.

As a Ravens fan, let me first start by saying that Ravenator does not represent all Ravens fans. Even I wish he would stop posting. Now with that being said, I would like to make a point. Yes, the Ravens lost to Charlie Batch in Baltimore, and yes IF Jacoby doesn’t run a punt back and IF Mike Wallace doesn’t fumble then you would likely have beaten the Ravens twice last season. But unfortunately for the Steelers, they both happened. Now what all the Steelers fans are failing to realize is that losing to Charlie Batch ended up being the best thing that could have happened to us last year. It played a huge part in the firing of Can Cameron. Everytime we played the Steelers he was so worried about a turnover that he held us back with conservative play calling. You will not have that luxery next year. Moreover, even the Steelers fans didn’t think Charlie had it in him. I have a bunch of Steelers fans that are friends that have admitted it, so should all of you. Our game plan in that game was to sit back, not turn the ball over and let the Charlie Batch turnover machine take care of the rest. He didn’t and the rest is history. Also, please stop talking about our QB situation and worry about your own. Ben doesn’t make much less then Flacco and hasn’t played an entire season since 2008. By going to the bank of Ben every year his entire contract is pretty much guaranteed and now you have to make a decision on whether to extend him to thin out the huge cap hits, let him play under them, or cut him. Flaccos contract is structured so that all 52 million in guaranteed jack is in the first three years as well as three very soft cap hits. If he doesn’t dominate after three years it will be extension or cut. I can’t wait to see what a full season without Can looks like. I think it is going to be amazing. One more thing: No QB has ever thrown for 4000 yds in a Can Cameron offense. That includes Drew Bees for 6 year, Philip Rivers for 2 years and Joe Flacco for 5 years. How is that for a common denominator? Enjoy your off season.

No matter what you say Ravenator is the typical Raven fan.no brains..no shame..no education…just kidding…
Ravens are one Flacco injury from last place. To deny it is silly. How many quarterbacks go injury free for their career? Just keep that in the back of your mind….can’t wait cause it will happen.

Low risk high reward..Dwyer and Redman both missd games last season..like 3-4 each we just stocking the cabinets and still will probably draft one in the 3rd round..Bradshaw Dwyer and Redman is not a bad 3some but I’d rather have Lacy or Bell..eitger way looks like Barron Batch is on his way out or designated to just special teams..

So the ravens lose 4 guys on defense under the age of 29 and replace them with 4 guys over the age of 29 and then call it reloading and getting younger ? I don’t understand that concept , but then turn around and say the steelers are a old team ? I must be missing something here , so the ravens have 1 decent safety (huff) and James ihedibgo whose pathetic , no middle linebacker , a corner who has two reconstructed knees , no true receiver , smith and Jacoby run the same routes and have no route running skills , no left tackle , no center , yet pittsburgh is doomed ? I don’t get it , raven fans are delusional !!!

  41. k2damfj says: Mar 28, 2013 7:40 PM

Most teams with an actual franchise QB are one injury away from a bad season. What’s your point? Even with the #1 D last season the Steelers were 8-8 and Ben only missed like 4 games. If the Browns were not the Browns then the Steelers were in last place. That is a silly comment. I am not trying to stir a pot here, I thought my factual post was pretty solid. How come when Flacco has a 20th ranked D and wins the Superbowl while throwing 11 TDs and no INTs in the postseason it was all his receivers? But when Ben consistently has a top 5 D and has 1 TD and 3 INTs in two Superbowls he is a great QB? To further my point, Joe threw for almost 1200 yds in the playoffs. He was only facing good teams during that stretch. If that was a 16 game season then he threw for almost 4800 yds. I can really only use those games as an example because they are the only ones without Cam. But it is not like they were not against the #1 and 2 offense, the #2 and 3 defense and all but one on the road or anything. I like our chances next season.

  42. blackngold4life says: Mar 28, 2013 7:41 PM

Defense is not my issue..although the decision making by the Front O is kinda crazy..My concern is the Offense that completely fell apart the last 6 games. 21 ppg is NOT gona get it done! Especially when 6 of those points come off the foot of your kicker! FACT: Leftwich had the longest TD run for the Steelers of any kind..I think the longest TD run by RB was 15..Just sayin this bacause Ben need HELP! Everybody knows a good run game Opens up the pass game and vice versa and I think Bradshaw could bring a legitimate threat with Dwyer and Redman if that YOUNG O-Line stays healthy! If we get that run game goin again mfs better look out

  45. lovefootball4life says: Mar 28, 2013 8:49 PM

Nofool. Us obtuse Ravens morons do get it. That’s why franchise QBs are paid so much – because they make or break a team. Which is why we are happy Flacco got paid because we believe he is that valuable to the team. Lets not criticize us for applauding Flaccos contract and then also accuse us of not understanding the value of a franchise QB.
