Changes to Eagles culture extends to seating chart

Chip Kelly AP

There is no limit to Chip Kelly’s willingness to bring change to the Eagles.

From defensive schemes to hiring a sports science coordinator, the entire deck is being shuffled.

And so is the locker room.

According to Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News, the Eagles have rearranged the locker room, moving guys out of familiar spots and mixing position groups.

I think it’s going to help us blend a little better as a team. You’re with your position so much, in the meeting rooms and like that. This’ll also have us hold each other accountable,” offensive lineman Todd Herremans said.

“If you look around the room right now, most of it is veterans next to young guys,” center Jason Kelce added. “Last year, I think the team lacked a lot of leadership. Instead of putting guys in positions together, where position [groupings] are young, they don’t really have a leader yet, all of a sudden everybody’s around older guys who have been doing it for a long time.

“I think the vast majority of guys are all for everything he’s trying to do, . . . any type of change, you’re going to have a few guys who don’t like it. They usually come on about two or three weeks later. They’ll be fine with it.”

At least if they win. If they don’t, there will just be more griping among different groups of players.

This is the kind of micromanaging nonsense that won’t fly in the pros. Veterans will turn on this guy real quick. Can’t wait to see this train wreck.

anything other than andy’s stale game plans and “we’re fine there”, “i’ve got to do a better job” for the last 14 years!!

@tombradyswig I totally agree its refreshing to finally not know what to expect come sept..abandoning the run with a top 5 back in the league for sake of pass, no in game adjustments, watching wr torch our secondary remember kenny britt before he was anyone victor cruze etc..id say chipper couldnt do any worse

Yeah you are, because unlike negative folks like you REAL eagles fans support their team regardless if we agree about the personnel. Chip has came in and has done nothing but postive things for this organization. You can tell he is very football intelligent and will be a great HC. If you dont think that you need to put down the pipe.

    @insanelomein2

No you’re not. Theres a few negative Nancy “fans” out there who aren’t happy unless they’re miserable

  11. 4getu says: Mar 29, 2013 11:32 AM

And who won’t even give this guy a chance. If he fails then he fails and we will move on. There’s only one way to find out though

  12. briscocountyjr says: Mar 29, 2013 11:43 AM

Who cares– are we supposed to think this guy is some slick innovator? The media will continue pumping all the details about his approach like this and just like a running back doing a suave shake&bake in the backfield they’ll get blasted by the reality of the game as soon as they step on the field. Quack on, Kelly.

The Vikings have done this for years. It has helped the chemistry on the team.

Eagle fans are still blind or in denile over their owner’s raping the team’s salary cap.
Meaning how much of it he does not spend and it goes into his pocket…
YES Eagle fans look at the unused cap space of this past year..H E L L O !!!!!!
    ………..
The Eagle fans claim to ” knowledgeable ”
    H E L L O …..ap numbers

I know I know he can spread out what he uses over 2 yrs…BUT he did the same thing.
The owner is only using the 80 some % he is required to.
    SAD

Right!! REAL fans support blindly huh??

Just like the few that felt positive about Andy & the majority was killing him. But that wasn’t “negative”, it was my fellow Eagle fans being well…Eagle fans. Everyone was calling for Andy’s head last year claiming we needed a traditional offense for Vick, a run first with max protection passing game. Don’t deny it everyone, ya’ll were screaming for it last season! What we hire is a college coach known for a gimmicky fast-paced offensive system. How many national championships did Chip Kelly win? We sure saw his vaulted offense stall in the second half against Auburn in the Championship game a couple of years ago, funny how no one remembers that now.

Thumbs me down everyone but until I see the “turnover machine” stop turning it over & I see the college coach we now have coaching at a Pro level, I remain skeptical. Nothing wrong with being cautious & having a wait & see attitude. I am not ready to send Chip Kelly to Canton yet as so many others seem to be.

  18. theclaim says: Mar 29, 2013 12:22 PM

Chip Kelly-Spurrier? Yeah some coaches think they can run their system ANYWHERE and pull it off. Players will be on board to start with but if the team slips at all the perverbial $h!t will hit the fan around week 8. Cue Flavordave and the 1960 champs. Norm Van Brocklin and Steve Van Buren aren’t coming back!

hey Eagle fans can you do this math…that was 53 yrs ago.
…” Geffrey ” has been robbing from the cap….cant you see that

So by that brilliant logic I assume you have never criticized a coach since I assume you yourself are not an NFL coach. Clearly a product of the Philly public school system.

  26. hawkforlife says: Mar 29, 2013 1:08 PM

No dog in the fight but you Eagles fans have to be happy that you have a new coach not a typical retread that brings no change.

We got Carroll and couldn’t be happier. Give him a chance, he sure burned all the PAC 10 schools so he must do something right.

  27. eaglesw00t says: Mar 29, 2013 1:12 PM

When Kelly was first hired, I wasnt too happy.

It turns out, (at least as far as the offseason goes) he stands for everything I wanted.

#1 CHANGE!!! In every facet of the game. Im 35. For too long, our team has been too small, too meek, too timid to combat with teams like the Giants and they would whoop our butts.

Im glad Andy is out of the fold. Remove every trace of him and start fresh.

  28. captainwisdom8888 says: Mar 29, 2013 1:39 PM

Changing the culture of this football team may very well be priority #1 for Chip Kelly, and many of us Philly fans wanted nothing more than exactly that. If you take a look at the pieces we have on our team, we are capable of great things. If Chip Kelly can get guys to maximize their effort, and play as a unified group, we will see an era in Eagles football moving forward that will make anyone proud to call this team…”MY TEAM.”

  29. mail2bency says: Mar 29, 2013 1:45 PM

  30. dcpowergator says: Mar 29, 2013 2:45 PM

    1) sneaky pete had already coached in the NFL. regardless of his poor performance at those jobs, it certainly helped him make the jump to SEA. kelly has no NFL experience at all. he’s much close to spurrier experience wise than carrol,

    2) change? with the most vanilla, bland west coast OC on the planet in pat shumur? iggles had better hope that kelly is basically his own OC and that shurmur is just window dressing.

  31. 4getu says: Mar 29, 2013 2:48 PM

    @chc4

It’s tough to criticize a coach who has yet to coach a single practice. If the guy fails then we move on. All I’m doing is giving the guy a chance to see what he can bring to the team. This article isn’t even news and shouldn’t have been put on this website and yet clowns such as yourself just considered it another opportunity to trash him and share what you think is legitimate criticism. Nice try

  32. rkt4mayor says: Mar 29, 2013 4:20 PM

    Great!
    More “innovation” from the Chipper.
Like taking your 4-3 built roster and trying to run a 3-4.
Or taking your WC built offense and trying to run the option.
Life long Eagles fan but I fully expect them to compete for the worst record in football.
We could’ve had a quick fix had we fired Roseman and kept Reid.

Oh well…at least Chipper will change the seating chart…

  33. dallascowboysdishingthereal says: Mar 29, 2013 5:56 PM

So now we know why the dream team failed and Andy Reid suddenly didn’t know jack squat about football. They had the players sitting in the wrong spots in the locker room. Makes perfect sense.

Warning: train wreck ahead in Philly

All you prognosticators of doom out there get real to the fact that Chip Kelly’s World Domination Tour 2013 is coming to your town and we ain’t takin’ no prisoners! Bleed Green! Can’t wait to get this demolition started!
