Devin McCourty has shoulder surgery

During the 2012 season, Patriots cornerback Devin McCourty became Patriots safety Devin McCourty. He’ll remain at safety in 2013, and he’ll have a healthier arm.

McCourty has undergone “minor” surgery on his right shoulder, according to Shalise Manza Young of the Boston Globe. He’ll spend the balance of the offseason rehabbing, and he’ll be ready for training camp.

It’s unclear whether he suffered an injury during the offseason, or whether he’s merely getting a lingering condition from last season cleaned up.

A first-round pick in 2010, McCourty was switched from cornerback last year, returning to the position only after Aqib Talib suffered an injury late in the regular season.

The Pats have re-signed cornerbacks Kyle Arrington and Aqib Talib, and they have added former Cardinals safety Adrian Wilson.
