RG3 says Obama told him to protect himself

s-OBAMA-FOOTBALL-large Getty Images

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan recently said he wants quarterback Robert Griffin III to learn how to slide. Shanahan isn’t the only decision-maker in Washington, D.C., who feels that way.

President Obama met Griffin this weekend at an NCAA Tournament game at the Verizon Center, and Griffin said afterward that Obama talked to him about “protecting myself.”

The ability of Griffin to protect himself will be an important part of the Redskins’ future, and Shanahan told Pro Football Talk that he expects “a drastic change from one year to the next” in Griffin’s ability to do the things necessary — slide at the right time, get out of bounds at the right time, throw the ball away at the right time — to stay healthy.

Griffin described his conversation with Obama as “wise words, much appreciated.” If Obama emphasized to Griffin the importance of keeping himself healthy, Shanahan may appreciate that, too.

Would sliding help the rest of us citizens?

  2. lightcleric says: Mar 31, 2013 8:20 PM

He also told him not to throw the ball to the other team, don’t lose it, and to score a lot of points.

Yep, just watch more film of Russell Wilson and you’ll learn how to be a pro football QB…

Shanahan’s coaching, Snyder’s unsafe field and Dr. Andrew’s medical decisions have already turned RGII into Bob griffin.

Here’s some wise words for obama: Stop your anti-gun agenda because that’s not the biggest problem in America. The economy is and shame on you for making a mountain out of a molehill and ignoring the elephant in the room.

P.S. I love how obama can spend $4.8 billion vacationing, playing golf and hanging out with Jay Z, Beyonce and RG3 while the men and women of our military are losing their college grants while defending our country. obama needs to take a long, hard look in the mirror and re-evaluate his priorities.

  10. vertskate900 says: Mar 31, 2013 8:31 PM

How about some advice for Obama: stop golfing and vacationing incessantly, and stop obsessing over college basketball…you are the president of the United States and you are tasked with leading this great country out of the trouble it currently faces. If you can’t or won’t, then you should not have run for re-election.

Wow. Who knew that trying to protect yourself from injury in football was only evident to the PUSA? Shouldn’t this guy be worrying about his bracket or better yet, trying to get a budget passed so we can be ready in case Lil Ill decides to go nuclear? Better yet, if you want to offer advice, call Jay Cutler tell him to stop whining, stop throwing INTs and stop being a coach killer. Don’t worry about the redskins or as that party likes to refer to as “the Washington Franchise”.

  13. rr2000k says: Mar 31, 2013 8:36 PM

  17. scoresreport says: Mar 31, 2013 8:39 PM

All season we had to listen to every analyst talk about the “genius” Shanahans, and then everyone turned in that last game.

Truth is the Shanahans were committing coaching malpractice all season letting a great talent like RG3 consistently run, and then they just doubled down at the end when he started limping. They risked his long term career for short term wins, and everyone in DC, including RG3 and the owner, went along with it.

Common sense says most QBs won’t survive long getting hit like running backs. Too bad it took an injury like this for RG3 and Shanahan to realize it.

If I met the President I would have called him a traitor for secretly signing the Monsanto Protection Act while the country was distracted with the DOMA debate, for signing NDAA on New Years Eve while the country was distracted, for extending the Patriot Act, for refusing to reform medicaid and social security, for starting frivilous wars over oil all throught the middle east, for giving all our money away to the Muslim brotherhood, foreign countries who burn our flag and shout death to America, and terrorists, and of course adding $6 trillion and counting to our debt and refusing to balance the budget.

  21. peytonsneck18 says: Mar 31, 2013 8:48 PM

  22. jason49er says: Mar 31, 2013 8:53 PM

I would also call the President a traitor for trying to take away all our guns, meanwhile he and his family get to be protected by armed guards, the DHS has recently purchased 1.6 Billion rounds of hollow point ammunition, while they are stocking police departments in major cities with military arsenals, and while he sells weapons to mexican drug cartels and tyrannical regimes oversees. Sounds to me like an uprising? What about not following on any of his promises like closing guantanamo bay, removing our troops from afghanistan, and labeling GMOs, ect..

  23. obxfannings says: Mar 31, 2013 8:53 PM

Interesting fact: Both Bush Presidents took more vacation days than Obama. Interesting Fact: The most vacation taking President was Ronald Reagan(who, uncomfortably to you Cons ran up the deficit far higher than Obama as a % of GDP), the President taking the fewest vacation days? Bill Clinton. Ammo is at an all time high – Obama? No you crazy a-holes driving demand past supply. Munitions suppliers thank you so much while they hike prices. Tony Romo makes too much money? You say, “I could throw a football for 18 million”. Sean Hannity makes 20 mill from Fox, Rush makes 38 mill from Clear Channel ( and he is a drug addict). Check your facts, boys. You are as big a blowhard as the ratings driven dopes you listen to daily on the Radio. Stop mixing sports and politics, seems like you can’t multi-task.

At one point during the game the place just absolutely erupted in “Boos” for no reason at all. They had put the president on the jumbo tron and immediately took it off. Within a minute they flashed him again and he half waved to a deafening round of boos.

Got home and checked the recording and they had of course dubbed cheers over the crowd.

Sad that he is worried about a guy that is a millionaire instead of the people that really need help and support. The poor, the people losing thier houses, the military and the people that he is sucking dry to pay for all of his failed policies.

I would also call Obama a traitor for circumventing congress by abusing his power with an outlandish amount of unconstitutional executive orders. By Obamacare, which was just a sham to raise taxes through the roof and further eliminate the middle class, for having the gall to lie to the nation during his State of the Union address saying he eliminated 2 trillion from the deficit when he’s added 6. For propping up children to use as political pawns in his tyrannical political agendas. I could go on and on, bring on the thumbs down you sheeple.

This is actually kind of amazing to me. Do any of you neo-con, racist, hate-mongering fools actually realize how insane you seem to normal people while you hide behind your computer and spew filth and hate for no good reason? It was a football article morons.

I’m sure RGIII needed the advice, and there’s no way he could have figured that out without the Big O’s chiming in on the subject. Of course, our President is very accustomed to handing out advice on things he knows nothing about, from healthcare and sports, the private sector economy, and even the food we eat.

Careful RGIII, Big Brother is watching.

A large portion of our military including myself are conservative. Mainly officers and around half the enlisted. The theme here is that most of the soldiers with an education lean towards the GOP. From the comments Ive seen according to the left, that would make most of out military racist, honkeys, rednecks and bible thumpers. I take these comments as an insult to people who know more about the governments political agenda than you could ever fathom. It would be nice of you so called Americans to quit bashing the views of the men and women who provide the freedom you take for granted everyday. If not than suit up like the rest of us. God Bless America!

hate to break it to you, but the deficit has been getting smaller under Obama. one thing he did do was put the Iraq War on the books, to be accounted for. turns out that it’s gonna cost us over 4 TRILLION to pay for that war, you know, the one that started because of all those Weapons of Mass Destruction. also, for those of you who don’t know how government runs, Obama is not a dictator; the House & Senate have blocked just about everything regarding the economy. if Obama were the dictator that so many people on the right consider him to be, those jerks on the other side of the aisle wouldn’t have the power that they do to filibuster in record amounts and continuously block legislation in the House that could get people back to work. instead all they give us is abortion laws, Sharia Law laws, and stuff about gays. funny, i don’t remember them campaigning on those issues in 2010

  110. irvness21 says: Apr 1, 2013 10:01 AM

lol. This “unprecedented debt” came after Bush. If every taxpaying American were given the bailout money Obama gave away, we’d all be $65,000,000 richer. This isn’t about skin color.

And so you assume everyone who voted against Obama is a “hillbilly”? Trying to make this a black thing are you? Had Colin Powell run for president he would have had my vote. Get a life mnviking56. Your style has no class.

Its funny how everyone is blaming President Obama for the debt when President Bush started 2 wars thats the cause of 92% of the debt. Also if you guys ever read a book or newspaper article in your life thats not Political Party bias you would also know that President Bush signed into law both Government bailouts. It was money already spent and President Obama had to pay it out by the law that was signed by President Bush. Learn the facts before you say what you heard. READ PEOPLE!!!!!!

  111. randomcommenter says: Apr 1, 2013 10:28 AM

People are fools who blame Obama’s spending on Bush. Yes, Bush started the wars and the bailouts and created debt, but Bush’s debt is tiny compared to what Obama himself added to it.

Obama’s bailout dwarfs Bush’s. And the monstrosity of Obamacare hasn’t even kicked in yet.

ALL Presidents families are protected and the DHS has NOT purchased 1.6 billion bullets. stop spreading a math error by a single news outlet. they could not solve a simple math problem that. I’de show u the math problem but I highly doubt u would be able to comprehend a SEMI complex math problem. BUSH started the program to sell weapons to cartels. u forgot to mention BENGHAZI. 5000+ dead 50,000+ wounded from a LIE WAR, 50,000+ needing healthcare. but wah wah benghazi…

    jason49er says: Mar 31, 2013 8:53 PM

I would also call the President a traitor for trying to take away all our guns, meanwhile he and his family get to be protected by armed guards, the DHS has recently purchased 1.6 Billion rounds of hollow point ammunition, while they are stocking police departments in major cities with military arsenals, and while he sells weapons to mexican drug cartels and tyrannical regimes oversees. Sounds to me like an uprising? What about not following on any of his promises like closing guantanamo bay, removing our troops from afghanistan, and labeling GMOs, ect..

The rich white man snatches all the cookies but one, then turns to the poor white man and says, ‘Watch out for that darky. I think he wants to take your cookie.’
    It works every time.”

I’m not wild about Obama since my health insurance has doubled in the past 6 years to $2100 per month for the wife and myself, but at least he’s a somewhat normal guy. Going to games, drinking beers in public, etc. I’ll give him that much. So unlike uptight dumbass George Bush who allowed Dick Cheney to run the country.

I was at the game, I live local to the Verizon Center and I am a life long Syracuse fans.

Wow , good job being unbiased and reporting facts by that media.

I admit I do think it’s funny still to hear all the Bush bashing as a response to negative comments about the current president. No real conservative or libertarian could stand Bush, or many of the other candidates the republicans trotted out there.

  121. godofwine330 says: Apr 1, 2013 12:06 PM

It is amazing all of the hate spewed toward President Obama. He is never supposed to take time off, sleep, or have any fun or time to himself whatsoever to you people, huh? Check the facts, he spends less time on vacation than any president since Jimmy Carter, that list includes the great (ha) George W. Bush who got us into the financial mess and the War on Terror that has gone on for more than a decade.

If you are going to spew hate, let it be legitimate, otherwise many of you sound like Faux News.

Our president told RGIII to slide and protect himself. Geez, why is this a reason to comment on anything but the QB’s unwillingness to slide?

  122. jason49er says: Apr 1, 2013 1:43 PM

bspurloc, a simple google search will prove you embarrassingly wrong…not 1 source, try pages and pages of search results worth of sources that the DHS has indeed purchased 1.6 billion rounds of hollow point ammunition, stop being a liberal sheep.

All this and I still can’t believe no one has mention the evil of the drone program. I’ve read studies that only 2% of people murdered are actually the people targeted. That means for every “terrorist” killed, 49 innocent civilians have to die too, including women and children. Makes you wonder who the real terrorists are?

  123. jason49er says: Apr 1, 2013 1:48 PM

Also when it comes to the “unprecedented” debt, simple math shows Bush added 6 trillion in 8 years, Obama added the same in only 4.

For those of you blaming Obama, try to remember that Bush left us with a mountain of sh!t for an economy, 2 wars, a record deficit and a financial sector that bordered on total collapse. Btw, I happen to be a fiscal conservative.

Glad to see all you blowhards still using dial-up in your mammas’ basement have so much to say about the President and RGIII.

Lighten up, all he did was note that he needs to slide. He’s a normal person like everyone else.

  128. patriotenvy says: Apr 2, 2013 4:53 PM

The LAST thing a president should be is a normal person, that’s the problem and why we are in a mess. They should be extraordinaire. But true blow hards don’t understand that.

  129. rg3cards says: Apr 2, 2013 10:30 PM

I really hope RG3 doesn’t become our generation’s “Bo Jackson”.
“He was a ‘flash in the pan’ athlete that wasn’t around enough for anybody to remember him”… people will say.

I’m hoping we get to see RG3 and Andrew Luck mature in the NFL, become friends, share life experiences together like getting married, having kids, keeping in touch. It’ll make a great “made for tv movie” one day!

The dangerous part is how closely RG3 is to the edge of total and complete failure. By making one tiny poor personal decision, which goes public and creates a scandal about him, this could ruin his image, followed by his likability, followed by poor ticket sales and a lot of “RG3 Ship Jumpers”.

And one more bad injury, which are almost CERTAIN to happen in the poor field conditions of FedEx Field, would require his FOURTH knee surgery in less than FIVE years!!

Who knows what the future holds?
