Lions still on the lookout for receiver help

Calvin Johnson AP

Though the red-carpet, white-limo treatment helped them land Reggie Bush, the Lions haven’t been able to cross every item off their shopping list this offseason.

According to Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press, the need for a dependable second receiver is still out there, unresolved.

Former Raiders draft bust Darrius Heyward-Bey visited but left without a contract, and early offer in Domenik Hixon appears to have become moot, as Hixon’s visiting the Panthers today.

They still have Nate Burleson and Ryan Broyles to work the slot, but with both coming off injuries, they’d like to have a healthy outside option now.

Obviously, they could still land Heyward-Bey, who thinks he’d be a good fit in Detroit, but the list of legitimate options in free agency is not long.

Cruz would bankrupt the Lions. He’s not an option at this point.

DHB might be their best bet. Otherwise, they’ll draft a WR anywhere from the 2nd to 4th rounds.

I dont know why you insist on calling DHB a bust.. i would love to have him on my team

Playing in Detroit on a short term deal seems like a good idea for any receiver. Playing opposite CJ in an offense that does nothing but throw would give him an opportunity to put up some big numbers and make him more money on his next deal.

Considering the crap gibberish that I routinely see posted on these forums it is rather disconcerting that I would take the time to contribute and have it summarily dismissed.

I thought they got a WR when they signed Reggie too. Let Burleson and Broyles take snaps opposite to Calvin and when they need that 3 WR set have Leshoure or Bell check in at RB and have Reggie line up in the slot. That would create some mismatches!

DHB is a perfect fit for the Lions. He was asked to do too much in Oakland. He was matched up against number one corners and was the primary receiver until Moore played at a high level. Facing single coverage from teams #2 corner is a perfect way for him to lose the bust label.

Adding Bush was big …he should open things up more for the WRs … IMO lions should stay pat an go with a drafted WR this draft had a lot of decent talent in that department

DHB has signed with the Colts. He is no longer an option. Hopefully Burleson or Broyles can recover in time for the season opener.
