The Titans have reached one-year deals with center / guard Chris Spencer and wide receiver Kevin Walter, the club said Monday.

Spencer and Walter figure solid backups if they do not garner spots in the Tennessee lineup.

The 31-year-old Spencer appeared in 10 games for the Bears last season, making three starts at left guard and two at right guard. Spencer has made 89 career starts, the bulk of which came with Seattle from 2005 through 2010. He has game experience at all three interior line spots.

Walter, 31, caught 41 passes for 518 yards and a pair of touchdowns in 16 games (14 starts) for Houston in 2012. He tied for 26th among all receivers in Pro Football Focus’ blocking grades at his position. He has started 93 career games.

“Both Kevin and Chris are established veterans in this league who have a great deal of starting experience,” Titans GM Ruston Webster said, according to the club. “They have made significant contributions on good teams during their careers. We feel like they can come in and provide increased competition at their respective positions for us.”

At the very least creates competition for spots now, as opposed to younger picks w/potential. But can’t really see either contributing much. Will be hard enough to make the roster

Unfortunately, I think signing one more o-lineman means they’ll probably go after d-line with the 10th pick, instead of a guard.

Walter sucks. The kid plays very hard but he is extremely mediocre.

No they will get chance. Spencer will compete for staring center.
