With just under a month remaining before the NFL draft, the Kansas City Chiefs have narrowed their potential choices for the No. 1 overall pick.

According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, the Chiefs are now considering just four players as possible options for the top pick on April 25. True to form this time of year, general manager John Dorsey had no intention of saying who those players are.

West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith is meeting with the Chiefs this week. Texas A&M tackle Luke Joeckel and Central Michigan tackle Eric Fisher could also potentially be among the four players in the Chiefs thoughts for the No. 1 pick.

Dorsey said the decision on who they will take will be made four days prior to the draft. However, Dorsey didn’t rule out the possibility of the Chiefs trading the pick either.

  1. My guess is:
    1. Luke Joeckel
    2. Geno Smith
    3. Eric Fisher
    4. Dion Jordan

When all is said in done, Luke Joeckel is not going to be passed up and will be the 1st pick in the draft.

  2. Awesome news dude! Thanks a bunch for bringing such clarity to the issue of #1 overall pick. Its so straight forward now.

  3. Lousy year to have the #1 overall. I like Joeckel, Fisher, Floyd, and Jordan. But none are going to alter a franchise like Luck or Griffin did last year.

  4. LOL! Nobody’s trading for the #1 overall pick this year. Terrible year to be sitting at #1. They’re feigning interest in Geno Smith just hoping that someone will be dumb enough to offer them a package to trade up to #1. Not gonna happen. They’re gonna take Joeckel. Usually when an OT is in the conversation for #1 overall, he’s a once a decade type prospect. Joeckel would be a top 10 type prospect in most drafts. This draft is deep overall, but it’s awfully light in the pants in terms of elite prospects.

  5. For a site that throws out unsubstantiated conjecture on a regular basis(in a good way!) you’d think you could at least come up with four hypothetical draftees as the top four on the Chief’s mystery board instead of three. Who is the fourth?!?

  6. They are dying to trade this pick and every team knows it….I just can’t see a team doing a deal with Andy Reid considering his past deals have never paid off for a trade partner.

  7. I’m not surprised they’re meeting with Geno Smith. It’s not out of the realm of possibilities that they take him but, I’m sure this meeting is just to convince other teams that they might take him so the Chiefs can trade down if the offer is right.

  8. I guess Andy doesn’t have to disseminate mis-information. No one picks ahead of him. I’ll bet he goes with a lineman.

  9. IMO, the Geno Smith story is a ploy. They are not going to take him after getting Alex Smith. I think they will take Joeckel.

However, we may see some teams try to make a last minute deal to get Geno and this could work in KC’s favor in having everyone “think” they may choose Geno.

    But c’mon……

  10. There is NO -WAY , Ried is letting ANYONE know his plans.

    I call B.S. on this story !

  11. Chiefs play a good bluff game but alas, it ain’t going to work. No one is going to trade up and give up multiple picks. This isn’t the type of draft that has ” must have” players in it.

This is a draft where to be truthful, a bunch of second and third round picks will be better players then a lot of first rounders. So why give up picks when I can stock pile?

  12. The Kansas City Chiefs are really going to shock alot of people if they take Geno Smith over 2 underclassmen that needed to stay in school for about a couple more years.

  13. Andy won’t draft an o-lineman w/ the first pick. He likes to pick o-linemen in the middle / late rounds and coach them up. Shawn Andrews is the only guy he drafted in the first. It didn’t work out so well.

I think he’ll trade down if he can get a dance partner. Too bad Al Davis has passed on. He would’ve played.

  14. It is going to be Fisher or Joeckel if they stay at #1. No way does Geno Smith get picked up by KC, It would alienate Alex Smith to no end. Besides, Alex has plenty of good years left in his career, so they can’t use the Rookie is for the future excuse.
My guess is that someone will try to trade for KC’s first pick. A team that is sure about Geno Smith and his abilities.

  15. This draft is so uninspiring, I actually would take a 40 yr old Deion Sanders..er…Sandcastle

  16. Realdeal’s right. I think the problem the Chiefs have is not that they don’t want to trade the pick but that no-one needs or wants to trade up. I think that if you don’t have a Cam Newton, Andrew Luck, Matt Stafford or an RG3, people just think it’s a weak draft. I don’t think that will be true of this year. I think there are guys who are not flashy but will go really late in round 1 and be multi-year Pro Bowlers, like Chance Warmack, Jarvis Jones, Larry Warford…

Change Geno Smith with Milliner or Star and you’re probably right. I don’t see the Chiefs spending a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd next year on 2 QBs.
