Shad Khan: Jags can go from horrible to very competitive

Months after his team completed a 2-14 season, Jaguars owner Shad Khan is feeling good about the possibility of a big turnaround.

In a CBS interview that focused mostly on Khan’s impressive journey from penniless immigrant to billionaire, Khan talked a little bit about how the Jaguars can see their fortunes turn around quickly. And he said that he sees no reason the Jaguars can’t go from the bottom of the league to the top in short order.

“The competitive balance in the league is unprecedented in the world,” Khan said. “The NFL really defines that, where you could be horrible one year and be very competitive the next year. The elements of a hard salary cap, the draft, scheduling, those all really come into it.”

Khan’s comments echo those of Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith, who said his own 2-14 team can go from worst to first. And in the NFL, where every year a team goes from last place to the playoffs, they might both be right.

Although no matter how confident Khan and Smith are, I wouldn’t bet on a Chiefs-Jaguars playoff game in nine months.
