Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers expects big numbers this year on the field. Whether he’ll also sign a contract with the biggest numbers in NFL history remains to be seen.

Rodgers said on Tuesday that he believes the Packers will have a phenomenal offense in 2013, and that the Packers’ defense is going to be better as well.

“I think we’re going to be a very formidable offense again and on defense if we can get healthy and get some of the guys back and going, we’re going to be tough to beat,” Rodgers said on 102.9 The Hog, via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Rodgers doesn’t sound particularly concerned about the departures of receivers Greg Jennings and Donald Driver, saying he still believes he has three great receivers and a good tight end in Jermichael Finley.

“If you watched last year, Jordy [Nelson] again had a great season, was injured for a little bit,” he said. “James Jones led the NFL in touchdown receptions and Randall Cobb had 80 catches, so those guys were 1-2-3 options last year because of Greg being injured and Donald didn’t have the same role he had in the past. I feel real confident about those guys. Jermichael had a big season last year, really came on at the end of the year. DuJuan Harris showed a lot in the playoff game as a guy who can get some more carries for us in the coming seasons. I like where our offense is.”

But when Rodgers was asked about the reports that he’s preparing to sign a new contract that would make him the highest-paid player in NFL history, Rodgers declined to get into it.

“We’ll have to see what happens here,” Rodgers said. “I don’t have an answer for you.”

When that answer does come, Rodgers will likely be every bit as excited about his contract as he is about his offense.
